Anna Gurolnick of Colorado College, a junior libero from Chicago, Ill.,has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from October 16th to October 21st.
At the A-C Divisional Crossover in San Antonio, Gurolnick led the Tigers to a weekend sweep after averaging 5.36 digs per set - a full dig-and-a-half more than her season average. Gurolnick recorded a season-high 24 digs in the five-set come-from-behind victory over Trinity and marked the fourth time the libero has had more than 20 in a match. With 59 digs in 11 sets, Gurolnick climbed two spots into seventh place on the program’s all-time list.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior defensive specialist Krystyn Pua led the Dallas with 76 digs over the week and claimed career-highs in digs (35) versus Texas Lutheran and service aces (7) on Friday versus Schreiner University. Austin College senior middle blocker Kristen Massey averaged 1.33 blocks-per-set with 16 total. Trinity freshman middle blocker Emily Ellis averaged 1.00 blocks-per-set with 10 total over the weekend, highlighted by a season-best seven blocks against CC. Texas Lutheran deffensive specialist Jaci Chambers picked up 57 digs over the weekend and posted at least a 5.25 digs per set average in each of the three matches. Senior defensive specialist Brandi Campos of Southwestern led her team to a 2-0 mark, totaling 22 digs in the Pirates’ victories over Austin College and Centenary.
