SCAC Volleyball Recap - Week Ten

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Nine out of the ten SCAC Volleyball teams were in action this past week, highlighted by the last two conference matches of the season – Johnson and Wales at Colorado College and Dallas at Austin College.  

In its only match of the week, No. 8 Colorado (SCAC 17-1; Overall 29-3) wrapped up the regular season with a victory over JWU (3-0) securing its share of the SCAC Regular Season Championship. The Tigers were led by Georgia Mullins with seven kills and three digs while Margo Spaethling adding eight kills.     

Led by Abigail Porras’ 20-kills performance, Dallas (Overall 17-18) finished the regular season 9-9 in conference with a victory over Austin College (3-1). The Crusaders earned their second victory of the week with a win over Dallas Christian (3-1) on Wednesday.   

Trinity (SCAC 17-1; Overall 31-4) closed out the regular season at home with victories over Hardin-Simmons (3-0) and East Texas Baptist (3-1). Annie Rose Leggett led the Tigers with 23 kills and 32 digs combined over the two matches. 

Southwestern (SCAC 12-6; Overall 21-13) went 2-1 at the Carnegie Mellon Invitational over the weekend with victories over Ohio Wesleyan (3-1) and Geneseo (3-1). Elleanna McGown led the Pirates with 13 kills in their match against Ohio Wesleyan and added 33 kills and 13 digs against Geneseo.  

Texas Lutheran (SCAC 9-9; Overall 20-16) went 2-1 over the weekend with wins over Hardin-Simmons (3-2) and Mary-Hardin Baylor (3-2). Cailey Young led the Bulldogs to their victory over Hardin-Simmons with 12 kills. 

Austin (SCAC 9-9; Overall 16-21) went 1-2 over the week with a 3-0 win over Howard Payne on Thursday. The ‘Roos were led by Shelbi Cook with 11 kills and teammate Karson Dykes added 10. 

Schreiner (SCAC 4-14; Overall 10-23) split matches over the week finishing out the regular season with a 3-1 victory over East Texas Baptist. Kayla Lofland led the way with 14 kills and 16 digs. 

Centenary (SCAC 7-11; Overall 11-24) fell to Texas-Dallas on Friday in the Ladies’ last match of the regular season. Alyssa Davis led the Ladies with five kills and 10 digs.  

The 2019 SCAC Volleyball tournament is scheduled for Friday, November 8th – Sunday, November 10th and will be hosted at Texas Lutheran University. Click here for the official website of the Championship.
