Austin College Edges Dallas in Five-Set Thriller to Open 2019 SCAC Tourney

SEGUIN, Texas - In a match between two very evenly matched squads, it was fifth-seeded Austin College that pulled out a 3-2 victory over fourth-seeded University of Dallas Friday evening to open the 2019 SCAC Volleyball Championship. Official Championships Website | Postgame Interview

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Austin College took the first set 25-19, a set that had 10 tie scores and two lead changes.
  • Dallas bounced back to take the second set, 25-20.
  • Dallas scored seven of the last nine points to take a 2-1 lead with a 25-22 third set victory.
  • Centenary made an incredible comeback, trailing as much as 20-13, to take the 28-26 fourth set win and force a deciding fifth set.
  • Centenary took a 2-1 lead, but Dallas scored six of the next seven points and took the 15-10 deciding fifth set.
  • Dallas out-hit Austin College .217 to .168. The 'Roos hit .389 in the opening set and .317 in the third but less than .100 the other three.
  • Dallas had 13 service errors compared to six for Austin College.

  • Dallas had been 7-2 in five set matches before tonight's match. Austin College improved to 6-3 this season in five-set matches with the victory.
  • Austin College is now 5-0 lifetime against Dallas in SCAC tournament play.
