Trinity Finishes Third at 2018 SCAC Volleyball Tourney

IRVING, Texas -- Behind a dominating hitting performance that saw the Tigers attack at a .339 clip, Trinity University cruised to a 3-0 sweep of the University of Dallas in Sunday morning's third-place match at the 2018 SCAC Volleyball Championships. Official Championships Website | Postgame Interview
With the victory, Trinity improves to 25-6 and will await word of an at-large bid when the NCAA Division III Volleyball Tournament bracket is announced tomorrow. The University of Dallas ends the year with a 20-15 mark. 

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Trinity jumped on Dallas early and often and took the first set, 25-9. The Tigers took 11 of the last 13 points.
  • With the second set tied at 11, Dallas won the next three points to take a 14-11 lead. Trinity bounced back, however, to take the next nine points to take a 20-14 lead en route to the eventual 25-17 win. The Tigers hit an impressive .389 in the second set. 
  • The third set was knotted at 5-5 when Trinity went on another run, winning 12 of the next 13 points, to take a 17-6 lead. The Tigers closed out the match with a 25-14 win.

  • Avery Tuggle: 10 kills, 11 digs, 3 blocks
  • Madeline McKay: 12 kills, .500 hitting percentage
  • Katrina Lieberman: 39 assists, 12 digs

NOTABLES

  • Trinity has finished no worse than third at any of the 20 SCAC volleyball tournaments in which it has participated. After today's victory, the Tigers are 55-10 in SCAC post-season play.
  • Trinity's Sarah Mullens went over 2,000 career digs in the match, making her the first player in program history to reach the milestone.
  • Dallas' fourth-place finish equals its best SCAC tournament finish in program history (2014).
