Southwestern falls in heart-breaking four-set match to CMS

GEORGETOWN, Texas - In a thrilling, four-set match, the Southwestern Pirates lost to the #2 Claremont Mudd-Scripps in the NCAA Regional Semifinal game.

The Pirates started the first set strong and set a lead the Athena's couldn't catch up to. The Pirates took the win 25-23.

Looking for revenge, CMS fought back in the second set. The Pirates and Athenas kept it neck in neck throughout until CMS's Crystal Anderson knocked down a kill to get the Athenas on a five point run. The Pirates were unable to catch up, allowing the game to even up at one set each.

CMS came out hot in the first set, setting a lead until SU thundered back to tie the game at 24 each. Free volleyball to all the fans as the game went to 27-25, in favor of the Athenas.

The Pirates and Athenas battled in the fourth sets the Athenas' took small runs that added up to a final set win and a spot in Sunday's NCAA regional final. 

Senior Kate Mitchell led the Pirates with 22 kills on the night, and senior Brandi Campos had 22 digs.

The Athenas will face Colorado College tomorrow at 12 noon with a trip to the Elite Eight on the line.
