
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - It was, again, one of the most exciting weekends of the season as Seguin, Texas played host to the final weekend of SCAC play.
The six team SCAC Championship is now set as all eight teams met for the final time this season at Texas Lutheran University.
Austin College
The 'Roos went 1-3 on the weekend. They started things
off with a 3-1 victory over Schreiner thanks to a nine kill effort
from Rebecca Franklin, but then drop the remainder of their games
against Southwestern, Texas Lutheran, and Trinity in straight sets.
Freshman Rebekah Bowden had a strong weekend, finishing
with 20 kill son the weekend with a .308 hitting percentage and
averaging a team-high 2.8 points per set. The 'Roos will wrap the
regular season up at the Southwestern Halloween Invitational as
they take on Texas-Tyler, Our Lady of the Lake, and Texas-Dallas
before hosting the SCAC Volleyball Tournament as the No. 6
seed.
Centenary
College
The Ladies had a tough weekend in Seguin, going 0-4 over
the weekend and losing all four conference matches in straight
sets. Coming into the game; however, the Ladies were on a three
game winning streak as they defeated Belhaven (3-1), Jarvis
Christion (3-0), and Dallas Christian (3-1) earlier in the week to
celebrate Senior Night. During that three game stretch, Rachel
Perkins finished with 34 kills. Centenary will wrap up its season
this upcoming weekend in Kerrville, taking on McMurry, College of
the Southwest, and Schreiner in a non-conference contest.
Colorado College
The 8th-ranked Tigers went 2-2 on the weekend in Seguin.
Colorado College started with a tough 3-1 victory over the home
team thanks to a 18 kill, 30 dig effort from Abbe Holtze and a 15
kill performance from Kristen Liberty. They followed that up with a
3-0 sweep over Schreiner. Going into the next and final day of
conference play, the Tigers still had a chance to wrap up the
regular season title, but fell to 22nd-ranked Trinity 3-0 and then
dipped into third place after falling to Southwestern in an epic
five set match despite a 17 kill match from Holtze. The Tigers will
finish the regular season with a pair of non-conference matches
against Johnson & Wales and Colorado Christian before heading
to Sherman for the SCAC Volleyball Tournament as the No. 3
seed.
University of
Dallas
The Crusaders finished 2-2 this past weekend to clinch
the No. 4 seed at the SCAC Tournament in two weeks. It was a tough
start for Dallas, falling in straight sets to Trinity and
Southwestern on day one, but they would bounce back the following
day. A pair of eight kill performances from Emily Caples and Marian
Guilfoyle gave Dallas a 3-0 win over Schreiner. They followed that
up with an epic 3-2 win over host Texas Lutheran including 14 kills
each from Caples and Jaime Birzer while Jessie Koster added 43
digs. The Crusaders will close the regular season against Arlington
Baptist and then head to the SCAC Volleyball Tournament as the No.
4 seed.
Schreiner
University
Schreiner went 1-3 over the weekend in Seguin. They began
with a 3-1 loss to Austin College and a 3-0 loss to Colorado
College. The follow day, after a 3-0 loss to Dallas, the
Mountaineers got their second conference win of the season,
defeating Centenary in straight sets thanks to an 11 kill
performance from Alyssa Chapman who hit .385 in the match and added
three blocks in the victory. Schreiner will conclude its season at
home with the Schreiner Classic, as they welcome in Centenary,
College of the Southwest, and McMurry.
Southwestern
University
For the second time this season, the Pirates were one of
the huge winners as SCAC Cross Divisional play, finished 4-0 on the
weekend to move their winning streak to eight games and propel
themselves into second place in the SCAC. The Pirates opened the
weekend in style, defeating Dallas and Centenary in straight sets.
They followed that up with an epic five set win over Colorado
College thanks to 15 kill, 25 dig performance from Macey Pool and
14 kills from Abbie Robb while Kaitlyn Foster added 31 digs. The
Pirates ended the weekend with a sweep over Austin College. The
Pirates close the season with the Halloween Invitational on
their home floor as they welcome in Millsaps, Our Lady of the Lake,
and Texas-Dallas. They will then head to the SCAC Volleyball
Tournament in Sherman as the No. 2 seed.
Texas Lutheran
University
The Bulldogs went 2-2 on their home floor over the
weekend. They began with a tough 3-1 loss to eighth-ranked Colorado
College before responding with a 3-0 victory over Austin College
thanks to a 15 kill performance from Kristin Fording. The following
day, the Bulldogs split, defeating Centenary, 3-0, and falling to
Dallas, 3-2. Senior Megan Lee, playing in her final home match,
left her mark against the Crusaders, finished with a career-high 52
digs, the fourth most digs in SCAC history. Texas Lutheran will
wrap up their season at the Southwestern Halloween
Invitational against Millsaps, Texas-Tyler, and Our Lady of the
Lake before entering the SCAC Championship in Sherman as the No. 5
seed.
Trinity
University
The biggest winners of the weekend was No. 22 Trinity,
who went 4-0 on the weekend including a huge win over Colorado
College to clinch the SCAC regular season title and the No. 1 seed
at the SCAC Volleyball Tournament. The most impressive stat was
that Trinity did not drop a set, winning matches over Austin,
Centenary, Colorado, and Dallas, in straight sets. In the huge
match against Colorado College, Maggie Emodi finished with 14 kills
and 16 digs while Layne Hubbard added 11 kills and 18 digs. The
Tigers will finish their season at home at the Trinity National
Invitational against Wittenberg, Randolph-Macon, and
Hardin-Simmons. The Tigers will then enter the SCAC Championship in
Sherman as the No. 1 seed.
