LEXINGTON, Ky. – Colorado
College (26-2, 9-1) drops one position to No. 8 and Trinity (Texas)
University (25-4, 9-1) moves forward to the No. 19 spot in the
American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division III Top 25
poll for week seven. Southwestern (Texas) University (19-8, 7-3)
also received votes for the Top 25 poll.
Colorado College had a tough game in its annual Dink Pink match
against Colorado Christian University. After dropping the first
set, the Division II Cougars stormed back to record a 24-26, 25-17,
25-20, 25-23 triumph and hand the Tigers their first home loss of
the 2013 season. CC Tigers finished with 18 unforced errors and hit
just .163 as a team. CCU also scored eight points on service
aces.
Colorado College tuned up for its final weekend of the 2013 SCAC
regular season with a 25-16, 25-19, 25-13 victory at Johnson &
Wales University. It marked the 20th time this season that the
seventh-ranked Tigers have prevailed in three sets. The Wildcats
hit just .096 as team and became the 15th opponent to hit below
.100 against Colorado College this season.
Trinity University swept four matches at the Trinity Fall Classic
over the weekend, improving the team’s overall record to 25-4
this season. The Tigers recorded 3-0 wins against three teams this
weekend, and then rallied for a 3-2 win to clinch the tournament
title in the final match on Saturday. On Friday, Trinity earned a
3-0 victory over 12th-ranked Eastern University to finish the
opening day of action.
Colorado College and Trinity University will resume conference play
this weekend, at the second SCAC Cross-Divisional in Sherman, Texas
at Austin College on Oct. 26-27.
