Dallas' Birzer; Texas Lutheran's Lee Named SCAC Volleyball Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - University of Dallas' Jaime Birzer and Texas Lutheran University's Megan Lee have been named SCAC Volleyball Players-of-the-Week after their outstanding performance this past weekend. 

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of October 7th – October 13th

JAIME BIRZER OF THE UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a sophomore outside hitter from Ottawa, Kan., has been selected the SCAC Volleyball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 7th through Sunday, October 13th. 

Birzer was terrific over the weekend as the University of Dallas went 2-1 in SCAC Divisional play - which included a huge win over Austin College.

Birzer picked up 33 totals kills over the weekend, including 17 to go along with a .552 hitting percentage over the 'Roos. She hit .431 for the weekend and also added seven aces.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior outside hitter Sarah Sumner of Centenary posted 25 kills and 12 digs in the effort. The Arlington, Texas, junior tallied 62 kills over the week with 29 digs. Sophomore outside hitter Lauren Hahn of Colorado College hit. 373 and averaged 3.78 kills per set to help Colorado College record three consecutive 3-0 victories last weekend. Senior setter Jaemi Groves of Schreiner had 71 assists (23.7 assists per match) on the weekend with a 27 assist match vs. Trinity. Sophomore outside hitter/right side hitter Macey Pool of Southwestern led the attack for the Pirates, posting 38 kills and a .223 attack percentage. She added in three assists, two aces, and 35 digs with three blocks on the weekend. Freshman outside hitter Brette Threadgill of Texas Lutheran tallied 45 kills (4.09/set) on .225 hitting over the Bulldogs' three matches this past weekend. Senior setter Maryn Swierc of Trinity paced the Tigers' offense with 72 total assists in the four matches, averaging 4.80 assists/set in the 6-2 offensive scheme and also ripped off a team-best six service aces, and added 34 digs (2.27/set) for the week. Austin College did not nominate anyone.

 

SCAC DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of October 7th – October 13th

MEGAN LEE OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a junior defensive specialist and libero from Universal City, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, October 7th through Sunday, October 13th. 

Lee was outstanding in the back for the Bulldogs all weekend  and helped them to a 2-1 weekend record.

The defensive  specialist finished with 100 digs (9.09/set) over the three matches to go along with 14 assists, six kills and four aces.

In the weekend opener, a 3-1 win over Schreiner, Lee racked up 27 digs and four kills to go along with six assists. It was her work on the second day that really set her apart though. She opened up Saturday with a season-high 43 digs in a 3-1 loss to Southwestern. She concluded the day with another great performance, tallying 30 digs in a sweep over No. 21 Trinity.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior outside hitter/defensive specialist Brooke Bahlinger of Centenary provided a strong defensive effort en route to the Ladies' five-set win over Austin College as she had 34 digs assisting the Maroon and White to its first conference win. Sophomore right side hitter Courtney Birkett of Colorado College recorded 44 digs and had a hand in 12 blocked shots to help Colorado College win 12 of 13 sets en route to the tournament crown at the Molten Volleyball Spike It Up Classic. Freshman middle blocker Victoria Rogers of Schreiner had three solo blocks and 13 block assists on the weekend, with one solo and six block assists vs. Trinity. Sophomore outside hitter Kaitlyn Foster of Southwestern led the attack for the Pirates, posting 38 kills and a .223 attack percentage. She added in three assists, two aces, and 35 digs with three blocks on the weekend. Junior right side hitter Bridget Bohman of Trinity tallied 12 blocks in the four matches, playing in all 15 sets to score an average of 0.80 blocks/set from her right side position with the Tigers and also added 12 digs and 23 kills for the week. Austin College did not nomiate anyone for the award.
