IRVING, Texas - Dr. Bob Howard has resigned, effective immediately, from his post as University of Dallas volleyball head coach.
Dr. Howard coached the team to a 62-52 overall record in three seasons (2010-2012) leading the program.
Dallas joined the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) prior to the 2011 season. In two seasons competing in the SCAC, the Lady Crusaders ammased an 18-21 (4-10 SCAC) record in 2011 before finishing 18-20 (2-8 SCAC) in 2012.
The squad's best mark under Dr. Howard's watch occurred as a member of the Association of Division III Independents (AD3I) in the record-setting 2010 season. The Lady Crusaders ended with a 26-11 clip for the winningest season in program history.
From Sept. 1, - Sept. 18, 2010, the team won a school-record 12 consecutive matches. Dallas wrapped the historic season with a third-place finish in the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Championship.
In addition to cumulative wins, the 2010 team claims three other school records -- 1,651 kills, 1,541 assists and a .702 winning percentage.
Dr. Howard helped grow a talented crop of record-setting players. Heralded senior outside hitter Theresa Wohldmann -- the 2010 AD3I Co-Player-of-the-Year -- tallied 496 kills in 2010 for the single-season school record. In 2012, Wohldmann ended with a career record 1,536 kills.
His former players Amanda Kitten, Danielle Fuchs, Kelli Fuentes and Elizabeth Baska were also record setting.
In his tenure as head coach, five student-athletes were named AD3I All-Conference, four were tabbed SCAC All-Conference and USCAA All-Americans, while three were proclaimed USCAA All-Academic selections.
With Dr. Howard's departure, Dallas will search for its 14th all-time volleyball head coach.
