
BREANNA STEELE OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from Happy Valley, Ore., has been selected the SCAC Women’s Track Athlete of the Week for meets held from Monday, March 25 through Sunday, March 31. SCAC Track & Field Weekly Release - Week 5
Steele was the top D3 athlete in both the 800 meters and the 1500 meters at the competitive Texas State Bobcat Relays. In the 800, she ran a personal best (2:18.37) and reset her own school record she established just last week. The time is also good for 24th on the national rankings. In the 1500, Steele won her heat against D1 competition and set a new PR by five seconds (4:48.35). She was also on the 4x400 squad which ran a season-best time of 4:06.82.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Alison Mueller-Hickler of Colorado College finished 16th in the first 10K of her career at the WashU Distance Carnival with a time of 35:48.71. That time is ranked first in the SCAC and 14th in the nation. Sophomore Josette Gurule of Trinity set a new personal best in the 1500 at the Bobcat Invitational with a time of 4:50.68. This mark ranks her eighth in SCAC. Junior Sophie Delgado of St. Thomas showcased her speed at the Bobcat invitational, lowering the school record in the 400 meter hurdles to 1:06.55. She also was part of the 4x400 relay team that ran 4:04.98. Both marks are currently top 50 marks in NCAA Division III.
