JOY AREOLA OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior from Tomball, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women’s Field Athlete of the Week for meets held from Monday, March 18 through Sunday, March 24. It is the second consecutive week Areola has received the honor. SCAC Track & Field Weekly Release - Week 4
Areola set a new school record in the triple jump by winning the TLU D3 Challenge with a jump of 12.20 meters. She is now ranked first in Division III. Areola also set a personal best in the long jump with a winning leap of 5.60 meters, which ranks third in Division III.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore Katelyn Brown of Texas Lutheran won the high jump competition at the TLU D3 Challenge with a jump of 1.45 meters (4' 9"). She also finished sevemth in the triple jump with a jump of 9.64 meters (31' 7"). First-year Giana Hilliard of Schreiner placed second overall in the long jump at the TLU D3 Challange with a jump of 4.98 meters (16' 4.25'). She made great improvements from flight one through the finals and is currently ranked second in the conference.
