SCAC Women's Track & Field Recap - Week Six

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Five of the six Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's track and field teams competed last week.

Colorado College traveled to the Colorado Invitational in Boulder last week and had a performance highlighted by another record-breaking run in the 4x100 relay. The foursome of McKenna Schnack, Samantha Gilbert, Asmeda Sparling and Camille Weaver finished seventh in the event wiht a time of 50.25 seconds, five one-hundredths of a second faster than their time last week.  Gilbert and Spalding joined Duranya Freeman and Ayla Loper on the fourth-place 4x400-meter relay with a time of 4:05.81. Spalding also finished 22nd in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:12.32.
 
Gilbert finished 12th in the 100 with a season-best time of 12.83 seconds, while Loper (13.65) and Liza Huschle (13.79) placed 23rd and 24th, respectively, and each posted a season-best time. Meanwhile, Freeman ran a season-best 2:20.68 to finish 15th in the 800.

Southwestern University and Texas Lutheran University both competed in Seguin last week at the Bulldog Relays. Texas Lutheran took the team title with 283 points, followed by the Pirates in second-place with 79 points.

For the Pirates, Morgan Gilpin led the way with a new school record and second place finish in the javelin. Her throw of 30.79 meters was just under .4 meters shy of the winning throw. Jaye Ashley posted a second place finish in the long jump (4.82m) and triple jump (10.15m) as well as a top five finish in the 100 meter dash with a time of 13.16. Hannah Bruce also snagged a second place finish, bringing home silver in the hammer throw with a throw of 38.23 meters. Mallory Harkins captured a second place finish of her own in the 400 meter dash, finishing in 1:12.44. 

The Texas Lutheran team captured 12 first-place finishes and set six stadium records at the meet. Ashley Myers set two new stadium records with victories in the 100 and the 200. In the 100, Myers crossed the line in 12.27 seconds. In the 200, she posted a time of 25.46. Cortnee Priour won two events - the long jump and the triple jump - and set the new stadium mark in the long jump. Priour posted a mark of 18-1 in the long jump.

Dejah Carr set the new stadium mark in the women's hammer throw with a toss of 128 feet, 11 inches. Carr won the event, and the Bulldogs also took third, fourth and fifth in the hammer. Setting a new stadium record in the discus, Brielle Brown won the event with a toss of 128-9 to lead the team to a 1-2-3-4-5 finish. Ashley Rynard continued her strong season, winning the 800 with a time of 2:21.12, which marked a new stadium record. Rynard also took second in the women's mile with a time of 5:22.40.

The Bulldogs' other wins came from Felicia Ortiz in the 400 meter hurdles, Kaitlyn Rodriguez in the 400, Emma Morgan in the pole vault, Jocee Bennett in the javelin, and Asia Fernandez in the 100 hurdles.

Trinity competed at the Pomona-Pitzer Invitational last week in California. In the women's 400 meter hurdles, both Andy Garza and Abigail Schneebeck posted the best times of the season for Trinity. Garza led the way in 10th place with a time of 1:03.27 seconds, which moves her to third in school history in the event. Schneebeck was 0.50 seconds behind Garza, tying her career-best mark and finishing 13th. Schneebeck was also 23rd in the 100 hurdles in a time of 15.70 seconds.

Garza and Schneebeck were joined by Androniki Defteraios and Rylie Edwards for the 4x400 meter relay, and the Tiger foursome finished in eighth place with a season-best time of 4:05.14. Jordan Juran finished the 1500 meter run in 4:51.10, which is the best for a Tiger runner this year and places her in the top 10 in school history. Haley McFadden led a large group of Trinity women's runners in the 5000 meter race, finishing sixth in a time of 17:52.44. That is the fastest time this season for the Tigers by nearly two seconds. Emma MacEachern, Juran and Melissa Whitman all finished in the top 25, followed closely by Laura Taylor and Brianna Ratliff in the top 30.

The University of Dallas traveled to Massachussetts for the Carla Coffey Invitational, with a meet highlighted by another strong performance from Diana Hassink. Hassink won the shot put with a throw of 11.48 meters, a season-best mark. She also garnered top-five finishes in the discus and hammer throw. Jules Oliveti finished second in the Discus (32.34m) with the top UD mark. She also garnered the team's second top-5 result in the Shot with a PR (9.03m) for fourth. Hannah Green and Anna Brunk matched their own Pole Vault records with a 2.95m (9'6.25") for the third best mark in the standings. Green took third on the tiebreaker. 

Emma Kate Callahan took eighth in the 1,500m (5:26.07) and scored a personal record in the 5,000m (20:27.16) for ninth.
