DELAWARE, Ohio - DePauw's Courtney Lauer, Hendrix's Elizabeth Krug and Centre's Emily Niehaus all earned all-American honors on day two highlighting day two for the SCAC of the Division III NCAA Track and Field Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan.
Lauer notched the third multi-event all-America honor in the last two years when she finished third in the women's heptathlon. Lauer entered today tied for sixth overall, but finished third in all three of today's events and broke her own school record with 4,906 points. Janey Helland of Gustavus Adolphus won with 5,061 and Emma Dewart of Ithaca was second with 5,015.
She started today with a personal best in the long jump at 5.39 meters (17-8.25) which was good for 668 points. In the javelin, Lauer's throw of 37.35 meters (122-6) was good for 617 points. She wrapped up the day with an 800-meter run in 2:22.26.
Krug became the Warriors’ third NCAA D-III Track & Field All-American in school history with a seventh-place finish in the heptathlon. Krug had a remarkable finish by jumping six positions on Friday, after improving on her preliminary rank (T-14th) by one spot in Thursday’s events. Her second day total (1,953) ranked third in the field.
Krug was the top freshman in the field and crushed her own school record in the heptathlon by 249 points with a 4,648 total. The Heber Springs, Ark. native is just the third freshman in the last two NCAA Championships to earn all-American honors.
Krug grabbed three personal best marks, including a school record, in four events on Thursday. She kicked off the heptathlon by breaking the Hendrix record in the 100 meter hurdles and finishing 18th in the event at 16:03, topping Lisa Crain’s mark of 16:16 set in 2002.
Niehaus took fifth place with a mark of 177'11", setting a new school record that she previously held with a throw of 176'9.65". She was named an all-American for finishing in the top eight.
Other highlights from day two included Millsaps' senior Erica Cook who qualified for the women's 100-yard final with a time of 12.19. Her time was the sixth fastest of the preliminaries.
Senior Kasey Jackson of Centre competed in the 100 meter hurdles where she came in 12th place with a time of 14.53. The top two from each heat along with the next best two to finish advanced to the finals. Twenty-three female student-athletes competed in the 100 meter hurdles. Portia Jones from MIT won the preliminaries with a time of 14.13.
Rhodes senior Sandy Henin qualified for the finals in the women's 800 with a time of 2:11.83, good enough for eight place.
