BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Birmingham-Southern junior Aly Goldfarb will return from the 2009 World Maccabiah Games in Israel with a gold medal in the 4x400-meter relay and bronze medals in the 400-meter run and the pole vault.
Goldfarb, a member of the BSC track and field team, ran a 59.82
for her third-place finish in the 400m, and cleared 3.60m for the
bronze in the pole vault, finishing behind Moran Azizi of Israel
and 2004 Olympian Jill Schwartz, who took gold. Despite not placing
in the 800-meter run due to illness, Goldfarb was able to mount a
come-from-behind lead in the relay to help the team win gold.
Goldfarb's father, Preston Goldfarb, long-time coach of the BSC
men's soccer team, and brother, Sean Goldfarb, are also at the
games coaching the Maccabi USA Junior Boys Soccer Team. So far the
team has tied Canada, 0-0, and defeated Israel and Mexico, both by
the score of 1-0, and moves on to face Germany tomorrow.
