Esther Bowers of Southwestern University, a sophomore from Kerrville, Texas, has been named the SCAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week for matches played from Monday, February 18 through Sunday, February 24.
Bowers went 3-0 last week in the No. 2 slot to lead the Pirates to a 2-1 record. To start the week, Bowers earned a victory in straight sets over Ashley Lessen of 17th-ranked Washington (Mo.) on Friday. On Saturday, the second-year dropped just one game all day, defeating Katie Smith of Schreiner 6-0, 6-1 and Brooke Carman of Sul Ross State 6-0, 6-0.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Senior M. P Hubert of Texas Lutheran took the No. 1 singles match 6-2, 6-1 to lead the Bulldogs to victory over Mary Hardin-Baylor. Trinity junior Mary Kaffen went 2-1 last week with victories at the No. 6 position defeating Division I oppenent Incarnate Word and 17th-ranked WashU.
