LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Six of the eight Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s tennis teams were in action this week.
Austin College women had an 8-1 victory over LeTourneau on Saturday. The ‘Roos swept their three doubles matches to open the day, with Melody Duong and Diana Carvajalino picking up an 8-0 victory. Carvajalino picked up a 6-0, 6-1 victory in the number two singles, with four other singles players finishing the day in two sets.
No.22 Southwestern split matches over the weekend, with a loss to No.2 Claremont-Mudd-Scrips (9-0) Saturday and a 7-2 win over No.21 Caltech on Sunday. First-years Alli Ziehm and Taylor Despriet went 1-1 on the week, picking up three points in the loss to No. 2 ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and broke a 1-1 tie in doubles against the No. 21-ranked Caltech squad, defeating Nina Solovyeva and Ankita Roychoudhury to give the Pirates a 2-1 edge heading into singles, eventually leading to the 7-2 victory.
Schreiner also split games over the weekend with an 8-1 victory over Mary Hardin-Baylor on Friday and a loss to Cal Lutheran (8-1) on Saturday. On Friday, the Mountaineers swept doubles with a pair of 8-3 wins and one 8-6 victory. Jennifer Garcia claimed a victory at the number one singles spot with a 6-0, 6-1 victory.
No.18 Trinity traveled to the Pacific Northwest and earned an 8-1 win over Lewis & Clark on Friday, before taking losses to Linfield (5-4) and Whitman (6-3) on Saturday and Sunday, respectively. Sophomore Megan Flores went 3-0 in singles on the week – picking up two wins at the No. 4 line and one at No. 3.
Texas Lutheran absorbed a 7-2 loss to Concordia on Friday. Bailey Denton and Liz Perkins had the two singles victories for the Bulldogs.
St. Thomas fell to Hardin-Simmons (8-1) and McMurry (7-2) on Saturday. Ana Maria Gonzalez was victorious on three of four matches, picking up singles wins in both matches and a doubles point, along with Alejandra Lopez, against McMurry.
SCAC women’s tennis action continues this week with five team on the schedule.
