LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - It was the busiest week to date for Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's tennis which featured Southwestern taking down three nationally ranked opponents.

In a challenging week for No. 38 Southwestern (11-1), which included match ups with No. 17 Mary Washington, No. 31 Gustavus Adolphus and No. 40 Bates, the Pirates rose to the occasion going 4-0 on the week. Southwestern took care of Concordia (Tex.) at the start of the week with a 9-0 victory then moved on to defeat Gustavus Adolphus, 7-2, Mary Washington, 5-4 and Bates 6-3. In doubles, No. 2 pair Mary Cardone/Mariana Quetzeri were undefeated last week while No. 2 Esther Bowers/Cecile Wilde and No. 3 Nina Elez/Stephanie Bartusov each posted 2-2 records. No. 1 Cardone, No. 2 Bowers and No. 3 Quetzeri also went 4-0 in singles. Against Gustavus Adolphus, Bowers downed 17th-ranked singles player Ginger Valentine 6-1, 6-7, 6-1. 

Austin College (5-3) hit its stride last week, defeating Oglethorpe, Ohio Wesleyan and Wheaton (Ill) though falling to Div. I opponent Navy and No. 29 Case Western Reserve. No. 2 singles Diana Carvajalino, No. 3 Anna Sergiovanni and No. 5 Georgia Moore each earned 3-2 records last week, winning matchups against opponents from Wheaton, Ohio Wesleyan and Oglethorpe. No. 1 doubles pair Carvajalino/Melody Duong contributed a 2-1 record, including the lone win against Case Western Reserve, where the duo defeated Madeline Paolucci/Mira Amin 8-5. Duong/Sergiovanni swept their competition on line one as well, defeating opponents from Ohio Wesleyan and Wheaton. 

In its lone match of the week, No. 14 Trinity (5-3) downed St. Mary's 9-0 on Monday. The Tigers dropped just three games against St. Mary's, as all three doubles pairs took their matches 8-0 while No. 1 singles Caroline Kutach, No. 4 Hailey Feuer and No. 5 Andrea De Leon swept opponents 6-0, 6-0. No. 2 Ashley DeBauge, No. 3 Zoe Kaffen and No. 6 Francesca Canjar put away 6-1, 6-0 victories. 

Texas Lutheran (3-2) dropped a 9-0 decision to Loyola-Louisiana. In doubles, No. 1 pair M.P. Hubert/Madison Dyer put up a fight against Loyola's No. 1 duo Arianna Pepper/Gabby Terranova but fell 8-3 while No. 5 singles Madison Starr bothered Miranda Cano, losing 6-2, 6-4. 

Centenary (1-6) fell to LSU-Shreveport in its only match of the week. No. 5 singles London Todd and No. 6 Laerke Solnaes each earned points in the loss with Todd downing Madison Reichard 1-6, 6-0, 1-0 (10-6) and Solnaes defeating Katie Smith 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-6).

Colorado College (0-6) was defeated by Bethel, 9-0, on Sunday. In doubles, No. 1 Tess Rubin/Annie Zlevor and No. 3 Emily Faulks/Lily Salzman dropped 8-2 decisions, each, while No. 2 Zlevor posted the best effort in singles play for the Tigers, falling 6-3, 7-5. 

On Monday, Schreiner (6-4) fell to Connecticut College, 7-2. No. 1 doubles Katie Smith/Kara Miller earned a 9-7 victory over Brooke Scully/Mariah Warren and No. 5 singles Marlee Davis downed Brinley Bartlett in straight sets 6-4, 6-2. 

The SCAC women's tennis schedule continues this week, highlighted by a National Top-40 matchup between Trinity and Johns Hopkins on Wednesday.
