LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - It was a busy week for Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's tennis as five of the seven squads hit the court for nine contests.

In its only match of the week, Southwestern swept Occidental, 9-0. In doubles, No. 1 Esther Bowers/Cecile Wilde and No. 2 Mary Cardone/Mariana Quetzeri came out strong, defeating opponents 8-4 and 8-2, respectively. No 3. pair Nina Elez/Stephanie Barusov battled back from a 4-7 deficit to defeat Alana Adelman/Nicole Pelletier, 8-7. The Pirates took the singles competition with ease with No. 4 Elez sweeping her opponent 6-0,6-0, and No. 2 Bowers dropping just a single game to Jane Wright to win, 6-1,6-0. No. 1 Cardone, No. 3 Quetzeri and No. 5 Wilde each earned victories by defeating their competitors, 6-2, 6-0.

Texas Lutheran defeated SCAC opponent Centenary, 9-0, on Saturday, then fell to Copiah-Lincoln Community College, 8-1. No. 1 doubles team M.P Hubery/Madison Dyer won both of their matches over the weekend, sweeping Ladies’ No. 1 Brianna Serret/Alyssa Davis, 8-0, and downing Wolves’ duo Paula Coronado/Carmen Mamica, 8-3, to earn the only point for TLU in that the match. Against Centenary in singles, No. 1 Hubert, No. 4 Mary Eby and No. 5 Madison Starr each swept their matches, 6-0, 6-0. No. 2 Dyer and No. 6 Kaitlyn Enloe also picked up 6-1, 6-1 victories over the competition. 

Despite its loss to TLU, Centenary bounced back to earn its first win of the season on Sunday – and first team victory in four years – edging Louisiana College, 5-4. In that match, the Ladies opened with strong doubles play, dropping just one game in all three matches as No. 2 Grace Doucet/Shyann Pisano and No. 3 Taylor Morgan/London Todd both completed 8-0 sweeps. In singles, No. 2 Allyssa Davis downed Molly Edleman 6-1, 6-3 while No. 6 Morgan made quick work of Diana Soto with a 6-0, 6-0 victory.

In a busy week for Schreiner, the Mountaineers went 1-2, defeating Howard Payne on Tuesday, 5-0. In the victory, Schreiner came out in full force as No. 2 doubles Jennifer Garcia/Kate De Los Santos and No. 3 Lauren Stanley/Marlee Daniels swept both opponents and No. 1 Kate Smith/Kara Miller overcame Erin McCleer/Erin Blanchard to earn the 9-7 victory. In singles play, No. 5 Daniels and No. 6 Kate Woods won 6-0, 6-0 to secure the Mountaineers victory. Schreiner fought hard in its defeats, falling 6-3 to Occidental and 5-4 against St. Mary's. 

Colorado College dropped 5-4 decisions in both of its matches last week, falling to Concordia (Neb.) and Southwest Minnesota State. In singles play, No. 2 Annie Zlevor, No. 4 Simone Hall and No. 6 Lily Salzman were consistent at their respective lines as the only Tigers to win both of their matches over the weekend. Against Southwest Minnesota State, No. 1 singles Tess Rubin added a hard-fought victory over Cora Delich, winning 6-4, 3-6, 1-0 (10-5) and No. 1 doubles pair Hall/Rubin collected an 8-4 win over Concordia. 

The SCAC women's tennis schedule continues on Tuesday when Austin College takes on Oglethorpe and Ohio Wesleyan and Southwestern hosts Concordia (Texas).
