Trinity Women's Tennis to Face Pomona-Pitzer in NCAA Opening Round

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- For the second year in a row, the Trinity University women's tennis team will face off against Pomona-Pitzer Colleges as they begin their seventh consecutive NCAA Division III tournament this week.

Trinity and PPC will join Whitman College and UT-Tyler in traveling to  Claremont, Calif. as Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Colleges earns hosting rights for the group.

The Tigers (13-10) won the 2018 SCAC Women's Tennis Championship for the seventh year in a row, defeating Southwestern University in the championship match to earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament.

Trinity closed out the season on a nine-match winning streak, including a pair of shutouts in the SCAC tournament. The Tigers have been 7-6 against nationally ranked opponents this year, with all of those losses coming to teams ranked in the top-16 in the latest ITA poll. The Tigers have not faced PPC this year, but did meet CMS, falling to the Athenas 8-1. The also took on UT-Tyler, defeating the Patriots 9-0.

The Tigers will face PPC at 10 a.m. (PT) in the second round match Friday, with the winner advancing to Saturday's third-round matchup. The winner of that match will advance to the quarterfinals of the NCAA Division III Women's Tennis Championship, which will also be in Claremont, Calif.
