AUSTIN, Texas – The College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced the 2016 Academic Al-America Division III At-Large Teams Tuesday, and two Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference female student-athletes were honored.

Brigitte Lee of Trinity University and Sofia Vega of Texas Lutheran University were each recognized for the second year in a row.

Vega, a senior from Corpus Christi, Texas and a member of the Texas Lutheran women’s tennis team, earned her second consecutive Academic All-America award after a successful year on and off the tennis court. She was a second team honoree this year, after earning third team recognition in 2015. Vega posted a 3.87 grade point average as a biology major and graduated this May. She plans to attend Oregon State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine.

Vega is a three-time All-American, a three-time Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year, and a two-time TLU Female Student-Athlete of the Year. She is also TLU's all-time leader in women's singles and women's doubles victories. She has won more than 100 career singles matches and more than 60 career doubles matches. In singles play, Vega is 105-18 – a career winning percentage of 85.3 percent.

Lee, a senior from Shavano Park, Texas and a member of the Trinity women’s golf team, is a three-time All-District honoree, while earning a spot on the Academic All-America Third Team for the second time. She majored in biochemistry and molecular biology, posting a near perfect 3.98 grade point average.

Lee has been a member of Trinity’s Dean’s List, and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Academic Honor Roll. She also has been named a Women’s Golf Coaches Association All-American Scholar. Lee has qualified for the All-SCAC Team in each of her four years as a Tiger golfer. The most recent honor occurred as Trinity won its second SCAC Championship in the past three seasons.
