Ellie Samples, Southwestern University, Swimmer of the Week (Week 2)

ELLIE SAMPLES OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a junior from Rockwall, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women’s Swimmer of the Week for performances during meets swam Friday, October 18 to Sunday, October 20. SCAC Swimming & Diving Release (Week 2)

Samples won both the 100 and 200 back in Saturday's dual meet against Colorado College, in times of 1:01.74 and 2:14.70, respectively. She also led off the second-place relay with a 28.59 50 back split.

Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Junior Neely Burns of Trinity started her season with three individual and one relay victory in the Tigers' win over Colorado College. Neely was first to the wall in the 100 (1:01.11) and 200 (2:13.83) backstrokes. She also won the 200 IM in 2:14.46. Neely wrapped up the meet with a 55.20 split on the winning 400 freestyle relay. Sophomore Isabella Cole of Colorado College took the top place in both 100 and 200 breaststroke events against Trinity and posted a first place finish in the 100 breast against Southwestern. She was also on the winning 200 medley relay, splitting 31.60 in the breast, against Southwestern. Cole charted in-season best times of 1:10.13 in the 100 breast and 2:28.83 in the 200 breast, which was seven seconds ahead of the rest of the field. Sophomore Hannah Waddell of Centenary continued her impressive start to the season as she recorded five individual wins over the weekend against the University of the Ozarks in a pair of SCAC dual meets. Waddell claimed wins against Ozarks in the 100 breast (1:12.75), 200 breast (2:34.38), 200 IM (2:20.73), 400 IM (5:01.90) and 200 free (2:08.44). She was also part of the Ladies' winning 400 medley relay team (4:35.74). Junior Jessie Wright of University of the Ozarks placed first in the 200 back (2:19.89) and 50 free (26.63), and placed second in the 200 IM (2:24.89) and 400 IM (5:13.79) during the two-day dual meet against Centenary. In addition, she split 27.24 in the 200 free relay and 58.62 in the 400 free relay to lead the Eagles to victory in both events.
