LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Five SCAC women's teams were in the pool this past week, highlighted by Centenary, McMurry and University of the Ozarks participating in the Hendrix College Relays and Classic on Friday and Saturday.
In Friday's Relays, Centenary placed fourth with 264 points followed by closely by McMurry with 256 points in fifth. Ozarks finished sixth.
Centenary took home five second-place finishes in relay action, including the meet-ending 400 free relay team of Brianna Serret, Ellen Atkinson, Sarah Harrisoin and Madelyn Frederck who finished in a time of 4:02.83. For the McMurry women, the team of Abigail Swaim, Jessica Gryder, Madelaine Smith, Jessica Gryder and Molly Herrera took fourth in the 500 free relay, posting a time of 5:25.69. Ozarks had its best showing in the 1500 free relay as the Eagles team of Shalley Coffin, Skylar Frazier and Catherine Wellborn placed third with a time of 18:48.00.
The following day, all three were back in the pool in Conway for the 52nd annual Hendrix College Classic. Once again, the Centenary women led the way among the SCAC trio with a fourth-place finish (245 points). McMurry was sixth with 113 points and Ozarks finished ninth with 15 points.
Brianna Serret brought home a pair of third-place finishes - securing the bronze in both the 200 fly (2:18.76) and the 200 back (2:15.07). In the 200 breast, the trio of Kaylin Swoboda (2:34.96), Sarah Harrison (2:37.37) and Jessica Jordan (2:38.61) posted third, fourth and fifth-place finishes, respectively.
For McMurry, Jessica Gryder picked up one of her better finishes of the day, taking 11th in the 50 free in 27.69 seconds. She narrowly missed the top ten by two tenths of a second. Molly Herrera earned an eighth-place finish in the 500 free, posting a time of 5:52.35.
Catherine Wellborn's 11th-place finish in the 100 free (1:01.93) was the top performance for Ozarks. with a time of 1:01.93.
In other action over the weekend, the Southwestern women lost (169-80) in their head-to-head meet with the University of Incarnate Word. Rehgan Hartsell was the first Pirate to break into the top three with a second-place finish in the 50 breast, finishing with a time of 31.40. She later broke through for a victory in the 100 back in a time of 1:08.99. Jesse Stovall had a third-place finish in the 50 free (25.24). Natalie Hicks (58.68) and Riley Barlage (58.92) placed second and third in the 100 free whie Megan Mick swam a 1:04.26 to finish second in the 100 back. Alexys Matcuk finished second in the 500 free (5:52.92) and Stovall did the same in the 50 fly (26.78) while Brielle Adolph finished second in the 400 IM (5:09.26).
On Saturday, Austin College swam a dual meet against UT-Permian Basin and dropped a 165-89 decision. Liberty Chanin continued her strong start to her career, picking up a pair of wins in the 1000 free (11:15.32) as well as the 500 free (5:36.16). Chloe Hunt added a first-place finish in the 100 free with a time of 58.08. Zuni Rubio also had a first place finish at the meet, coming in with a time of 2:33.81 in the 200 fly, and Nicole Massaro delivered first place points on the 1-meter board.
The schedule continues next week with four of the league's seven teams in action, highlighted by Austin College traveling to University of the Ozarks for an intra-conference dual.
