LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Six SCAC women's swimming and diving teams were in the pool this past weekend, with Austin College traveling to McMurry for an intra-conference dual highlighting the schedule.
The Austin College women defeated McMurry, 122-65, in the team's season-opening meet. Both Liberty Chanin and Becca Tobias touched first in multiple events as Chanin placed first in the 1000 free (11:29.87) and the 500 free (5:39.76), and Tobias took first in the 100 fly (1:05.76) and the 200 IM (2:30.28). Chloe Hunt was another 'Roo to place first in multple events, winning both the 100 free (58.68) and 200 free (2:09.48).
For McMurry, two War Hawks picked up victories, as Jessica Gryder took gold in the 50 free (27.49) - her third individual win in two meets this season - and Madelaine Smith won the 100 breast (1:20.32) by over six seconds.
The Centenary women opened their 2019-20 season on Friday with a 94-70 dual meet victory over Millsaps. For the Ladies, Jessi Jordan posted multiple victories, taking home gold in the 50 breast (34.97) and the 200 IM (2:25.94).
The Colorado College women went 1-2 against Division II opponents Saturday in a four-way dual meet in Pueblo, Colo. The Tigers defeated Adams State, 173-100, but fell to host CSU-Pueblo, 154-127, and Western State, 154.5-124.5. Jio Chang and Peyton Classon led CC with a pair of individual wins apiece. Chang won the 100 fly and 200 free, while Classon won both diving events, including an NCAA regional qualifying score of 247.10 in the 3-meter competition. She qualified in the 1-meter event last weekend at home against Southwestern University.
University of the Ozarks played fourth at the Little Rock Invitational Saturday as freshman Rosie Wade broke two more program records. In the 200 IM, Wade swam a 2:20.93 for sixth place and a new program record, and in the 200 back, Wade posted a time of 2:20.30 to set the new program mark.
Swimming against UT-Permian Basin, the Trinity women posted a 138-115 victory over the Falcons, securing wins in eight different events during the meet. Mabel Fowler scored two individual wins and was a part of both the winning relays for Trinity. Fowler was the lead-off in both the 400 medley and 400 free relay teams that won on Saturday, as well as earning the top spot in both the 200 free and 200 back events. Caroline Westholder also finished with two victories for the Tiger women, winning the 200 fly and the 400 IM. Her time in the 400 IM places her ninth in school history.
On that same day, the Trinity diving team concluded its first weekend of competition at the Kenyon Relays, held at Kenyon (Ohio) College where Tiger divers took second through fourth place on the 1-meter board. Katarina Partalas led the Trinity contingent with a second-place finish, posting a score of 224.4. Partalas was just two points behind the winner from Carnegie Mellon. Gabi Fulk finished third at 213.45, and Maren Merwarth was fourth with a score of 207.15.
The 2019 swimming and diving schedule continues next week with two of the league's seven teams in action, highlighted by a conference dual as Southwestern travels to Austin College on Friday.
