SCAC Women's Swimming & Diving Recap - Week 12

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - All seven Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's swimming and diving teams competed last weekend.

Austin College and Centenary went head-to-head, ending the dual meet in a 79-79 draw.

For the 'Roos, Katie Voelkel earned a first place finish in the 200 freestyle with a time of 2:14.59, and Brittany Maynard came in with a time of 1:06.23 to get first place points in the 100 freestyle. Sophie Garriga added a first place finish of her own, touching in 5:39.35 to win the 500 freestyle. Voelkel came in second in that event.

The Ladies earned wins in the 1000 yard freestyle from Rebecca Dunn, posting a time of 11:23.90 to finish just 0.05 seconds ahead of the second place swimmer. Caitlyn Faulhaber won the 50 free with a time of 26.03 seconds, while Jessica Jordan took top honors in both the 200 IM (2:28.68) and 100 breaststroke (1:16.64). Elena Ring won the women's 100 butterfly, and teammate Jesseca Hageman captured the title in the following event, the 100 backstroke. The Ladies also won both relays in the meet to even out the score.

Colorado College won the CC Classic for the first time since 2015, while McMurry University finished seventh in the field.

The Big Cats captured three individual titles and won the 200 medley relay on Sunday. Sophomore Jio Chang won the 200 butterfly, while freshman Indian Phillips and senior Mary Rose Donahue finished first in the 1650 freestyle and 3-meter diving, respectively. Donahue posted a score of 413.55 points, followed by sophomore Riley Wadehra (395 points) and freshmen Alexia Preston (352.45), Lani Flagg (328.55) and Jen Middleton (307.70) to sweep the top five places.
 
Meanwhile, sophomore Sarah Dunbar, freshman Emily Erickson and seniors Ellen Silk and Justina Zuckerman won the 200 medley relay race in a time of 1:55.43.

The Warhawks top swims came from senior Robyn Remschel, who posted a fourth-place finish in the 200 back with a time of 2:13.88 and a second-place finish in the 100 back (1:01.13), and freshman Mariah Rhoades, who took seventh in the 400 IM. Katie Gorka also had a good meet, taking third in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 21:10.28.

Trinity University and Southwestern University met for a dual last week, with the Tigers earning a 152-97 win over the Pirates.

Trinity All-American Lindsay Hagmann nabbed individual wins in both the 100 and 200 freestyle events, then also added two victories with her teammates in the 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays. Mabel Fowler was also a double winner for the Tigers, besting the competition in both the 100 backstroke and the 200 individual medley.

Star Rosales and Lauren Cuda joined Hagmann on both winning relay teams. Abbie Jones joined the trio for the win in the 200 free relay, while Rebecca Andruzzi raced the third leg of the winning 200 medley relay. Andruzzi also brought home an individual victory in the 100 butterfly, while Ashley Ward won the 200 backstroke.

Casey McLeod and Payton Green won the 500 and 1000 freestyle races, respectively.

For the Pirates, freshman Rehgan Hartsell picked up right where she left off with a win in the 100 breast at 1:09.96 and the 200 breast at 2:35.11. Southwestern swept the next three spots in the 100 breast with sophomore Teresa Cropper placing second (1:17.05), freshman Mattie Wesoloski placing third (1:20.53), and senior Emma Walsh placing fourth (1:22.74). Cropper (2:46.50), Wesoloski (2:56.31), and Walsh (3:01.72) went 2-3-4 in the 200 breast as well.

The team of freshman Kate Russell, Hartsell, junior Cara Chin, and freshman Breely Peterson finished second in the 200 medley relay at 1:54.73.

Peterson took a win in the 200 fly at 2:18.98 while senior Taylor Adams was second at 2:26.39. Chin was victorious in the 50 free at 25.95 while junior Erika Dubros was second at 26.00.

The University of the Ozarks took on Henderson State University over the weekend, falling 84-51. The Eagles won the opening 200 medley relay, posting a time of 2:42.24. Kaitlyn Henrietta also had a strong meet, posting second-place finishes in the 100 fly (1:13.00) and the 100 back (1:15.80), and a third-place finish in the 50 free (28.71).
