The team of Mabel Fowler, Lindsay Hagmann, Rebecca Andruzzi and Elizabeth Ryan came home in a time of 3:55.77 to secure gold for the Tigers and snap Colorado College's four-year stranglehold on the event. Southwestern was second in a time of 3:58.96 and Colorado College finished third in a time of 4:00.88.
The divers got into action for the first time on Friday afternoon as the women competed on the 3-meter board. Trinity's Christine Peterson continued the Tigers' dominance in the event, winning the program's 13th consecutive gold in the event with a score of 417.90. Colorado College earned places 2-6, which included all-conference performances from Riley Wadehra and Mary Rose Donahue with 367.45 and 361.80 points, respectively.
Trinity's Rebecca Andruzzi opened the evening's finals session with her second consecutive win in the 400 IM. She defended her title in the event with a 4:38.49 finish. Teammate Ivy Claflin placed second with a time of 4:41.34 and Taylor Adams of Southwestern finished third in 4:45.34.
Colorado College's Ellen Silk became the second consecutive swimmer to defend her title as she took first in the 100 butterfly. Her time of 57.62 placed her ahead of Trinity teammates Andruzzi (58.11) and Paige Johnson (58.13).
Trinity's Fowler put the Texas Tigers back atop the awards stand with a first-place finish in the 200 freestyle. Her winning time of 1:53.51 was the fourth-fastest in the history of the conference meet. Trinity swept all three of the top slots as Lauren Cuda and Abbie Jones finished 2-3 with times of 1:55.71 and 1:56.20, respectively.
Southwestern freshman Rehgan Hartsell set a new SCAC championship meet standard in the 100 breaststroke, breaking a nine-year old mark by Centre's Meredith Angel. After establishing a NCAA 'B' cut time in prelims (1:04.84), Hartsell bested that earlier mark in the finals and touched in a time of 1:04.10. Trinity's Hagmann finished second in 1:07.13 and Colorado College's Emily Erickson was third in 1:08.23.
In the final individual event of the evening, McMurry University's Robyn Remschel became just the third female in league history to win three titles in the 100 backstroke and the first since Colleen Maggard of Centre College in 2012. Remschel posted a NCAA 'B' cut time of 57.11, after going even lower in the morning prelims (57.00). Her prelim time is the third fastest in the history of the event and the senior will end her career owning three of the four fastest times in meet history. Star Rosales of Trinity finished second in a time of 58.58 and her teammate Paige Johnson was third in 58.89.
Heading into tomorrow's final day of action, Trinity leads with 728 points followed by Colorado College with 611. Southwestern is third with 420 points and McMurry follows with 207. Rounding out the standings, Centenary is fifth with 170 points, Austin College is sixth with 137 points and University of the Ozarks is seventh with 94 points.
Competition concludes on Saturday with preliminaries beginning at 10:30 a.m., followed by the women's and men's finals at 6 p.m. The league's 37 senior student-athletes will be honored at 5:45 p.m. in the annual senior night celebration. Click here for the complete schedule of events.
