Trinity's Sarah Kate Mrkonich Earns All-American Finish in 1-Meter Diving

SHENANDOAH, Texas - Trinity University's Sarah Kate Mrkonich earned All-America accolades in women's 1-meter diving at the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships on Friday.

Mrkonich placed eighth on the low board at the Conroe ISD Natatorium, scoring 412.65 points. She bettered her score from the prelims, chalking up a 403.75 earlier in the day.

Mollie Patzke placed 19th in the 1-meter event.

Mrkonich is now an All-American on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards.  Last year, Mrkonich finished seventh on the high board. .

On Wednesday, Mrkonich garnered Honorable Mention All-America status in the 3-meter competition, with an 11th-place finish.

The Tiger junior had been an Honorable Mention All-American for the previous two years in the 1-meter event. Mrkonich was also an Honorable Mention All-American on the high board in 2015.

Saturday is the final day of the NCAA Championships. Jacob Hurrell-Zitelman will swim the men's 1,650 freestyle. Lindsay Hagmann is set for the women's 100-yard freestyle. The preliminaries will be held at 10:00 a.m., and the finals are slated for 6:00 p.m.
