
CHICAGO, Ill. - The CSCAA named its 2009
Scholar Athlete Awards and seven SCAC swimmers were honored as
Scholar All-Americans. Eight from the league earned Honorable
Mention recognition.
Scholar All-Americans are selected on the basis of their
performance in the pool and classroom. To be selected to the
All-American team, swimmers must qualify for the NCAA Championship
meet and achieve a GPA of 3.50 or higher. Honorable Mention
selections must achieve a NCAA consideration time and 3.50 or
higher GPA.
Catie Baker, Amanda Stier and Callie Boehme of DePauw University,
Jessie Carrier of Southwestern University and Lindsay Martin and
Hayley Emerick of Trinity University earned Scholar All-America
status on the women's side.
Andrew Battles of Trinity was the lone SCAC male to be selected
Scholar All-America.
Cassie Enix, Dani Johnson and Rachel Wheaton of DePauw as well as
Lindsay Weigley of Trinity were honored as Honorable Mention on the
women's side. Kurt Adkins and Jordan DeGayner of Colorado College
and Zachary Dielmann and Kevin Martin of Trinity were recognized as
Honorable Mention on the men's side.
Increased championship participation caps, along with the impact
of high-tech suits produced a bumper crop of selections with 471
first-team selections and an additional 430 honorable mentions
totaling a record 901 individual certificates.
