KAITY WARD OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore midfielder from Phoenix, Ariz., has been named the SCAC Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played through Sunday, October 20th. 

Ward led Trinity’s 18th-ranked women’s soccer team to road wins over Southwestern and Texas Lutheran in SCAC play last weekend, keeping the Tigers in first place in the conference standings. Ward scored the eventual game-winning goal in Friday’s 2-1 win over Southwestern. She narrowly missed a goal on Sunday against Texas Lutheran, hitting the cross bar on her only shot of the afternoon. Ward is second on the team with five goals this season and Friday’s game-winner was her first of the season. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
 Freshman midfielder Alyssa Mencacci of Dallas scored the game-winning goal in a 2-0 win over Johnson & Wales last Friday in the team’s lone game of the week. Sophomore forward Whitney Whitehill of Southwestern scored the Pirates’ game-winning goal against Schreiner last Sunday. Senior forward Katarina Maksimov of St. Thomas score the Celts lone goal in a 2-1 loss at Centenary last Friday night. Sophomore midfielder Monique Sierra of Texas Lutheran sparked the Bulldogs’ come from behind overtime victory against Schreiner last Friday with the first of three unanswered goals from TLU.
