Centenary's Boldrin, Trinity's Canepa Headline 2019 All-SCAC Women's Soccer Voting

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – In exclusive voting by the head women’s soccer coaches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), Centenary College’s Migui Boldrin was selected SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Year while Trinity University’s Kristen Canepa was named SCAC Defensive Player-of-the-Year for the second consecutive season. Complete Release

In the same balloting, Alyssa Mencacci of University of Dallas was tabbed the league’s Newcomer-of-the-Year while Trinity head coach Dylan Harrison was named SCAC Coach‐of‐the‐Year for the third consecutive year.

A senior midfielder from Ribeirao, Brazil, Boldrin leads the SCAC in goals (16), shots (92) and points (39) and is tied for the league lead in game-winning goals (4). She also had four multiple-goal games – the most in the SCAC. With her next shot, which will presumably come in this weekend’s conference tournament, Boldrin will have amassed the most shots by a SCAC women’s player in a single season since 2014. A two-time SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week during the regular season, Boldrin is second in the SCAC in points per game (2.29) and tied for third in assists (7). In her team’s eight conference matches, she scored a goal or recorded an assist in five of them. Boldrin is not only the first Centenary women’s soccer player to earn SCAC Offensive POTY honors, she is the institution’s first student-athlete to earn POTY honors in any fall sport since Centenary joined the SCAC prior to the 2012 season.

Boldrin received seven votes in the balloting for Offensive Player-of-the-Year honors while sophomore forward Kaity Ward of Trinity University received the remaining two first-place votes.

Kristen Canepa, a senior defender from Westlake Village, Calif., led a Trinity defensive effort that gave up just one goal during conference play and eight during the regular season (tied for 16th fewest in the nation). A four-year starter, Canepa has helped the team to 62 shutouts in 80 career games for a 0.34 GAA. The senior, who was a two-time Defensive POTW during the season (Week 2 and Week 5), has had her most productive season on the offensive side of the field, chipping in with four goals – two of which were game-winners – and an assist for nine points during the regular season which is tied for seventh on the team. Since the league first started recognizing the award prior to the 2003 season, Canepa is the first player in SCAC history to earn back-to-back Defensive Player-of-the-Year recognition. It marks the ninth time a Trinity student-athlete has received the honor.

Canepa received six votes from the coaches in the Defensive Player-of-the-Year balloting while senior goalkeeper Mary Cardone of Southwestern received two first-place votes. Senior goalkeeper Olivia Severson of University of Dallas received the remaining vote.

Alyssa Mencacci, a first-year midfielder from League City, Texas, has seven goals (eighth in the SCAC) and two assists for 16 points (ninth in the SCAC) thus far in her inaugural season at Dallas. She shares in the league lead with four game-winning goals, two of which came during a four-game stretch where she scored goals in every match and the team went 3-0-1 after starting the season 0-2. In the eight games she scored or assisted on a goal, the Crusaders went 7-0-1. Mencacci was a two-time SCAC Offensive Player-of-the-Week selection during the season (Week 4 and Week 6), the first time a Dallas women’s soccer player has earned the award more than once in the same year.

Mencacci received five first-place votes in the Newcomer-of-the-Year selection process to become the third UD player to earn the honor and first since Elena Naccari in 2014. First-year defender Bailey Meyer of Trinity received two votes and first-year defender Kayta Arbuthnot of Johnson & Wales University picked up the remaining first-place vote.

In his fourth season at the helm of the Trinity program, Dylan Harrison led the Tigers to their 11th-straight SCAC women's soccer regular season title, with this year’s squad posting a perfect 8-0-0 mark. The consecutive regular season championship run coincides with Trinity’s consecutive conference win streak record as the Tigers have now extended their NCAA Division III record for most consecutive conference wins (including conference tournaments) to 133. Heading into the SCAC tournament, this year’s edition of the Tigers has posted the most goals (57) and assists (48) in the conference – which would be the program’s 15th consecutive year to lead both categories. Trinity also has a league-leading 0.50 GAA to go along with 11 shutouts. The award is the second consecutive for Harrison and third overall but the 17th time a Trinity head coach has been named SCAC Women’s Soccer Coach-of-the-Year.
