LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - All eight Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer teams kicked off the 2018 season this past weekend, posting a cumulative record of 5-5-4.
Centenary (1-0), Texas Lutheran (1-0-1) and No. 12 Trinity (1-0-1) all opened the season without a loss through the opening weekend. The Ladies have now won their opener for the third-straight season following a victory against Belhaven last Saturday. TLU earned an opening season victory for the first time since 2015 when the Bulldogs went 13-5-2 after defeating Concordia, 2-1. Trinity posted a pair of clean sheets, posting back-to-back shutouts, picking up its victory in double-overtime against Puget Sound.
Johnson & Wales (1-1) began its first year in NCAA Division III and as a member of the SCAC with an impressive, 6-0, victory over Mills College. The six goals mark the fourth time in the last two years the Wildcats have scored six or more goals in a single contest.
Southwestern (1-1) bounced back from a tough opening season loss to defeat Concordia in a high scoring affair, 4-2. The win marked the first time since October 2016, the Pirates have scored four or more goals in a single game.
The conference portion of the 2018 women’s soccer season gets underway this weekend with two contests scheduled for both Friday and Sunday. On Friday, Texas Lutheran travels to Centenary and Dallas (0-1-1) hosts Johnson & Wales. JWU then visits Austin College (0-2) and Centenary entertains Schreiner (0-1-1) on Sunday.
