LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – All of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer teams were in action this week, finishing up the second-to-last weekend of conference play.
The Trinity University Tigers continued their 16-game winning streak and have solidified the No. 1 seed heading into the SCAC Championship.
The University Dallas Crusaders went 0-2-1 on the weekend, falling 1-0 to Austin College Tuesday before ending in a double-overtime 0-0 draw with Southwestern on Friday. They fell to Trinity 7-0 Sunday.
With a 2-1 overtime loss to Texas Lutheran, the Centenary College Ladies are no longer in playoff contention. TLU, however, moved into sole possession of the No. 2 seed with one game left to play.
Non-Conference Games:
Centenary 0, Louisiana College 4
The Ladies hosted LC Tuesday evening, but fell 0-4.
Centenary was down 2-0 going into halftime, but managed to fire
nine shots in the second half of the game. Unfortunately, the LC
goalie was able to make saves on each of the Ladies’
on-target shots. Centenary goalkeeper Lauren Cullen marked nine
saves on the day, facing 13 shots on goal. Marissa Hughes led the
team with six shots, while Carly Slovensky wasn’t far behind
with three of her own.
Conference Games:
Austin College 1, Dallas 0
The Austin College ‘Roos earned their ninth win of
the season Tuesday, defeating the University of Dallas Crusaders at
home. The two teams remained close, with AC only having a one-shot
advantage (13-12). Dallas put seven of their 12 shots on target,
while Austin College was only able to get four on goal. Neither
team could put a ball in the net through the first half, but less
than 10 minutes into the second period, AC’s Erin Eckart
knocked in the eventual game-winner off of an assist from Tyler
Marquez. Eckart led all players with seven shots on the day, two on
target. Austin College goalkeeper Franchesca Lozoya marked seven
saves on the day, while Dallas’s keeper Elena Naccari put up
three.
Texas Lutheran 2, Centenary 1 (OT)
The Texas Lutheran Bulldogs began their week with an
overtime win against the Centenary Ladies. The Ladies got the game
started as Hannah Bate scored the game’s first goal off of an
assist from Madison Alexander in the 19th minute.
Neither team could find the net for the rest of the half. In the
57th minute, Kelly Lochte knocked in the equalizer off
of an assist from Sioned Kirkpatrick. With less than two minutes to
go in the first overtime period, TLU’s Taylor Vatuna knocked
in the game-winner off of a deflection. Centenary goalkeeper Erica
Coker put up nine saves the day, facing 11 total shots. Erin Rose
of TLU put up two saves in goal, but only faced three.
Trinity 9, Austin College 0
The Trinity Tigers continued their impressive streak with
a win over AC on Friday evening, defeating the ‘Roos 9-0.
TU’s All-Americans Emily Jorgens and Kelsey Falcone had a
hand on six of the teams nine goals on the day. Falcone finished
the day with a hat trick, while Jorgens put up two goals. Falcone
marked one assist on the day, while Jorgens, the NCAA Division III
assists leader, marked three. Falcone scored her first goal, and
the eventual game-winner, in the second minute of play off of an
assist from Jorgens. Jorgens followed the goal up less than a
minute later. Maggie Olvera marked the team’s third goal in
the 21st minute before Falcone and Jorgens put up one
more apiece before the half. Jordan Leeper put up a goal in the
46th minute off of an assist from Falcone and Jorgens.
Olvera assisted on the next two goals in the 56th and
61st minutes (Falcone and Hannah Booher). Abby Tisdale
finished the scoring attack with a goal in the 88th
minute. AC goalkeeper Franchesca Lozoya put up nine saves on the
day, but faced 17 shots on goal. Laura McGee took over for Lozoya
in the 67th minute, facing three shots and marking two
saves. The Tigers’ defense did not allow the ‘Roos to
take any shots.
Dallas 0, Southwestern 0 (2OT)
The UD Crusaders earned their first draw of the season
against the Southwestern University Pirates Friday. Southwestern
held a 12-5 shot advantage, but Dallas put three shots on goal,
while the Pirates only put two on target. Krysta Maples led all
players with three shots, one on goal. Pirates’ goalkeeper
Katherine Rodgers marked three saves on the day, while UD keeper
Naccari put up two.
Austin College 1, Southwestern 0
The ‘Roos bounced back from a loss to Trinity by
defeating the Southwestern Pirates Sunday 1-0. AC’s Mary
Katherine Bond marked the game’s only goal in the
48th minute off of an assist from Kat Harrington. The
‘Roos held an 11-10 shot advantage, but only put three shots
on goal. Austin College’s Tyler Marquez led both teams with
four shots, putting one on goal, while Carol Bentley led the
Pirates with three shots. AC goalkeeper Franchesca Lozoya marked
another shutout, putting up four saves on the day. SU’s
Rodgers marked two saves on the day, facing three shots.
Trinity 7, Dallas 0
The Tigers earned another win Sunday as they hosted the
University of Dallas. Emily Jorgens began the scoring early with
the eventual game-winner in the third minute of play. TU’s
Olvera marked the only other goal of the first half off of an
assist from Falcone in the 12th minute. Trinity outshot
the Crusaders 25-3, putting 17 of their shots on target. Olvera led
both teams with four shots, three on goal and two goals in the
game. Jorgens also marked two goals on three shots. UD’s
Nicole Johnson, Alice Nelson and Rebecca Brunter accounted for the
team’s three shots on the day. The Tigers’ last three
goals were put in by Colleen Markey, Tierney Thomison and Allison
Carter.
Schreiner 2, Centenary 2 (2OT)
The Schreiner Mountaineer and the Centenary Ladies ended
their weekend with a 2-2 draw. The Mountaineers held a 17-10 shot
advantage, putting ten of their shots on goal, but Centenary
goalkeeper Coker marked eight saves to keep the offensive attack
under control. Ruth Blackburn led all players with seven shots in
the game, four on target, and marked both of the Mountaineers goals
in the game. Marissa Hughes of Centenary led the Ladies with four
shots and put in the first goal of the game in the 15th
minute. Blackburn’s first goal came in the 28th
minute to tie the game up at halftime. Blackburn struck again in
the 80th minute to give the Mountaineers a lead, but
Madison Alexander put in an equalizer in the 89th
minute. Schreiner’s Megan Morant marked four saves on the
day, facing six shots.
