
LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Texas Lutheran University and Austin College both started their SCAC seasons 1-0 with victories over Schreiner and Centenary. Trinity University also added a 2-0 weekend in non-conference play.
AROUND THE SCAC
The Austin College women's
soccer team defeated Centenary 1-0, winning their SCAC conference
opener on Wednesday night. Then the 'Roos hit the road for the
weekend falling to Rhodes 2-0 on Friday night and on Sunday to
Millsaps 1-0. The 'Roos will be looking to come back strong for
their second conference game at University of
Dallas on Sunday, Sept. 22nd at 1:00 p.m.
Centenary went 0-2-1 on the week with both losses being
decided by one goal. Chelsea Russell provided the lone, Ladies'
goal over the week with an unassisted score in the 83rd minute
of the contest to force a draw with Hendrix College on Sunday.
Freshman Erica Coker played 225 minutes in goal for the Maroon and
White over the week recording six total saves, but allowing two
goals in both 1-0 shutouts. Traci Lee led the squad with six shots
with three coming on goal. Centenary returns to action on Tuesday,
Sept. 15 as the Ladies host LeTourneau at 5 p.m.
The University of Dallas
women's soccer team went 1-1 on the week. On Thursday, in Irving,
Texas, the Lady Crusaders powered to a 9-1 win over LeTourneau
University. Junior forward Nicole Johnson registered seven points
in the affair, including a hat-trick and an assist. Also joining
the scoring barrage for Dallas were sophomore defender/forward
Rebecca Brunter, senior midfielder Melissa Carpenter, senior
defender Emily Rogers, freshman midfielder Cascade Mayer and
freshman defender Mary Alexander. Senior goalkeeper Brigid Hasson
and sophomore Alice Bloemer split time in net. Hasson picked up the
win, while Bloemer made three saves in 35 minutes of playing time.
Head coach Angelina Pane's squad proceeded to fall 1-0 to Rhodes
College (Tenn.) in Memphis on Sunday afternoon. Nicolette Glidden's
73rd-minute goal proved the game-winner for the Lady Lynx. Dallas
has one road and two home games on the docket this week -- @
Texas-Tyler (Tuesday, 7 p.m.); Centenary (Friday, 3 p.m.); Austin
(Sunday, 1 p.m.).
The Schreiner Mountaineers were 0-2 on the
week. On Friday, Schreiner traveled to Texas Lutheran to open
SCAC play, and fell 4-0. Against Houston -Victoria on
Saturday, the Mountaineers were again defeated, 4-0.This week the
Mountaineers will travel to Southwestern (Friday, Sept. 20th) and
Trinity (Sunday, Sept. 22nd) for continued SCAC matches.
Southwestern had a big week of home action, hosting three
American Southwest Conference schools. Tuesday, despite the Pirates
controlling most of the game SU fell 2-1 just minutes into
overtime. UT Dallas came to town on Friday evening and was unable
to overcome a momentum swing in the first half as they fell 4-2 to
the Comets. Southwestern closed out the weekend on Sunday against
UT Tyler and played extremely well, but had trouble getting the
ball in the back of the net, losing 1-0. SU falls to 1-5 on the
season and remain at home to open SCAC conference action this
weekend against Schreiner University.
Texas Lutheran went 2-0 for the week. Sioned Kirkpatrick
assisted on two goals while scoring one of her own in the Texas
Lutheran women's soccer team's 4-0 win at home against Schreiner on
Friday afternoon. It was a dominating effort all-around for Texas
Lutheran, outshooting Schreiner 30-4 on the day. The Bulldogs held
Schreiner without a shot on goal all game while notching 12
themselves. Courtney Brooks and Maegan Idrogo scored the two other
Bulldog goals on the day. The Texas Lutheran women's soccer team
used an excellent offensive attack to score five goals in its 5-3
home win over Huston-Tillotson on Sunday afternoon. Maegan Idrogo
notched a hat trick while Sioned Kirkpatrick scored TLU's other two
goals.
No. 6 Trinity posted a pair of shutout victories over the
weekend, defeating UT-Tyler 2-0 on Friday, and blanking UT-Dallas
4-0 on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers have now recorded three
consecutive shutouts, after starting the season by allowing a goal
in each of the first three games. Both of Trinity's goals against
UT-Tyler came in the final minute of each half, and then the Tigers
had three goals in the second half of the win over UT-Dallas.
Trinity will open defense of its SCAC title this weekend, hosting
both Texas Lutheran and Schreiner in conference play on Friday and
Sunday.
