MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Joe Vari was named the Women's Soccer Coach and Assistant Coordinator of Recreational Services at Rhodes College today. Vari served as the men's and women's assistant coach this past season at Rhodes. Vari was instrumental in helping the women's team to their first SCAC Championship since 1991 and the team's first appearance in the NCAA Division III Championships.
"Joe was selected from among 100 candidates who applied for the
position and he clearly was the top choice of our search committee"
said Coach Clary.
Vari is a 2003 graduate of Hiram College where he was a four year
starter as goalkeeper and was named MVP of the men's soccer team
for the 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 seasons. After graduating from
Hiram, Vari became an assistant coach at Lynchburg College, where
he received his Master's of Education in School Counseling. While
at Lynchburg, the women's soccer team made two Sweet 16 appearances
and one Elite 8 appearace in the NCAA tournament. He also led the
men's team at Lynchburg to an NCAA birth and the team's first ODAC
conference championship since the mid-80's.

former women's coach Bobby Lessentine. I am excited about the
possibilities that lie ahead with our returning players." stated
new Head Women's Coach Joe Vari.
