ALENA STERN OF COLORADO COLLEGE, a sophomore goalie from King’s Mountain, Calif., has been named the SCAC Women’s Lacrosse Defensive Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 18th through Sunday, March 24th.
Stern improved to 7-0 while leading No. 22 Colorado College to a pair of victories last week. In Monday’s 23-0 win over Marian (Wis.), Stern and freshman Sarah Stamp combined for CC’s first shutout since blanking the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, 17-0, on March 7, 2016, at home. On Wednesday night, Stern stopped 11 shots as the Tigers overcame an early 4-1 deficit to record a 20-10 victory at Division II CSU-Pueblo. It marked the second time this season and the ninth time in her career that Stern recorded double-digit saves. Colorado College, which improved to 7-0, plays four games this week beginning Monday against George Fox University.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman goalie Brigid McCollam of Johnson & Wales registered 41 saves in four games last week for the Wildcats, including six in JWU’s 12-7 win against Elmhurst last Sunday. McCollam racked up an impressive 50.0 save percentage despite facing a barrage of shots.
