LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- It was a busy week of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s lacrosse last week as all four teams were in action for the first time this year, highlighted by Colorado College (1-0) opening its 2019 campaign and Johnson & Wales (1-3) earning its first win in program history.

The CC Tigers defeated UC-Colo. Springs, 18-13, last Wednesday to start the year off 1-0 for the fourth time in the last five seasons. Junior attack Eva King registered two goals and added four assists to lead the Tigers with six points on the afternoon. Sophomore Alena Stern collected nine saves in cage for CC.

JWU made program history last Thursday when the Wildcats secured a 12-5 victory over Whitworth on the road. The win marked the first in team history for the fourth-year JWU Denver program. Junior Ashely Guerrero rang up a game-high six goals and senior Katie Smith scored three times to lead the Wildcats in victory.

Southwestern improved to 3-2 on the season following a pair of impressive victories last week. The Pirates opened with a 22-10 win against Augustana (IL) at home before traveling to Dallas on Saturday and securing a 21-10 victory. Hayley Donnelly combined for 19 total points in the two games on six goals and 13 assists, including a career-high nine in the win against Augustana (IL).

Dallas (2-4) rebounded from its loss to Southwestern to defeat N.C. Wesleyan, 18-10, on Sunday. Lexi Leite rang up a career-high eight goals on 21 shots in the win. The senior also collected two ground balls and caused two turnovers.

Women’s lacrosse action returns this weekend with three games scheduled, as Southwestern hosts N.C. Wesleyan on Tuesday and Colorado College swings west to face Chapman on Friday and Claremont-M-S on Sunday.
