LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- The 2019 SCAC women's lacrosse season officially got underway this weekend with two of the league's four teams in action.

The University of Dallas (1-0) scored the final three goals of the game to pull out a back-and-forth, 15-13, home victory over Huntingdon (Ala.) College Saturday afternoon.

A big first half gave Dallas an early 8-1 lead and the Crusaders led 12-5 in the second before Huntingdon responded with eight straight goals to take its only lead of the game at 13-12. With six minutes remaining, Lexi Leite put Dallas back on track with a game-tying goal and Erika Keever netted the game-winner with 4:05 left. Emily Pauletti tacked on an insurance goal later, but Dallas was able to run the time out by retaining possession the rest of the way. Leite and Keever combined for 11 goals with Leite leading the way with seven. Lizz Winkler made 14 saves in net for the Crusaders, including several spectacular stops late in the contest that prevented Huntingdon from evening the game

The following day, Southwestern (1-0) picked up a victory in its season-opener, putting away the same Huntingdon squad, 23-5, in the the Pirates' first game under new head coach Brice Queener. Southwestern opened up a 13-3 first half lead and never looked back against the Hawks. Raven Garcia, Johnee Wolter, Ronni Winter and Hayley Donnelly totaled four goals each to lead the Pirates' offensive efforts and Donnelly also had three ground balls. Grace Maynard paced SU with four. McKenna Zinke and Gillian Glover split time in goal for Southwestern, with Zinke allowing three goals and making three saves while Glover allowed two goals with two saves in the second half.

Three of the league's four teams will be in action next week, highlighted by SCAC newcomer Johnson & Wales (Denver) hosting Division II opponent Adams State on Sunday. Dallas and Southwestern will each take on Westminster (Pa.) - with the Crusaders playing host to the Titans on Saturday and Southwestern playing in another neutral site contest at Dallas on Sunday.
