GRAND LAKE, Colo. - Colorado College added to
its legacy of excellence in the classroom by earning the
Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association's top academic
honors for the 2011-12 season.
The Colorado College women’s lacrosse team added to its
legacy of excellence in the classroom by earning the
Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association's top academic
honors for the 2011-12 season.
CC was one of only 61 Division III programs to be named an
IWLA Academic Squad for maintaining a combined grade-point average
of 3.0 or higher. The defending Southern Collegiate Athletic
Conference champion Tigers were the only SCAC team included on the
list.
“Winning the conference championship while being the
top-performing team in the classroom is what our program is all
about,” head coach Susan Stuart said. “Our players
strive for excellence in everything they do and I am very proud of
how they represent our program and the college.”
Senior defender Bailey Terhune, who graduated in May with a
degree in political science, claimed a spot on the
organization’s Academic Honor Roll for the second year in a
row.
Terhune, who currently is working at Children's Hospital in
Denver, plans to attend medical school next year.
Junior attacker Frances Staadt, who is majoring in
international political economy, and junior midfielder Ellie Cole,
an English major, also were among the 246 student-athletes from 94
different institutions to receive the award.
Staadt recently completed a summer internship with Capstone
Financial Partners, a financial advising firm, while Cole interned
with the Colorado Springs Gazette and had one of her stories picked
up by the Associated Press.
Those student-athletes were nominated by their schools and have
achieved at least junior status academically.
“Having three student-athletes named to the IWLCA Honor
Roll is remarkable,” Stuart said. “It’s takes an
incredible amount of discipline to balance the rigorous academic
challenges of the Block Plan while playing lacrosse at its highest
level.”
