KIONA HSIU OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a senior from Missouri City, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women’s Golfer-of-the-Week for competition played through Tuesday, February 27. SCAC Golf Release (Spring - Week 2)
Hsiu led a group of three Tiger players that finished in the top five as Trinity took the team title at the Space City Classic. Hsiu finished as tournament runner-up individually, four shots off the individual medalist from UMHB. The senior shot shot 150 (76-74) for the week, and tied for the top spot in Par 3 scoring with an even-par 3.00 average for the two rounds. She was also in the top five in Par 4 scoring and was one of just six players in the field to shoot under-par on Par 5 holes. Hsiu also led all players with six birdies in the tournament.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior Kimberly Burch of Dallas secured the 19th top 10 finish of her career with an 83 in round two, finishing in seventh place with a two-round score of 156 (+14) at the Space City Classic. Senior Ryleigh Erickson of Southwestern led the Pirates at the Space City Classic, finishing in a tie for eighth with a total score of 157 (77-80). She finished first in the field in scoring on Par 5s, averaging 4.67 shots and -2 for the tournament on its longest holes. First-year Emma Cook of St. Thomas fired an 82 (+11) in the final round and jumped two places to finish tied for 13th at the Space City Classic. Cook's scorecard included eight pars and a birdie to round out the tournament. First-year Micah Rabey of Schreiner paced the Mountaineers at the Space City Classic, finishing in a tie for 17th after firing rounds of 82 and 86 for a two-day total of 168 (+26). Junior Braydee Frederick of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldogs on Day Two of the Space City Classic with an 18-over, 89. She finished the Classic 28-over and tied for 21st place.
