Southwestern Leads After Day One of SCAC Women's Golf Championship

BLANCO, Texas -- Southwestern University fired a first-round 315 and holds a 22-shot lead following Monday's first round of the 2019 SCAC Women's Golf Championship at Vaaler Creek Golf Club. Official Championship Website | Women's Results | Photo Gallery

Tomorrow's final round at the par-72, 5,885-yard layout will begin at 8 a.m.

After the first 18 holes, Southwestern is sitting at +27 and is 22 shots clear of Trinity University which finished with a first-round 337 (+49). Schreiner University is third with a 353 (+65).

Three Pirates sit atop the leaderboard as Emily Campbell, Leilani McDaniel and Mikayla Miller fired rounds of 76, 77 and 79, respectively, to propel Southwestern to its large lead. Teammates Katherine Dyo (83 - seventh) and Valentina Olivieri (84 - tied for eighth) are also in the top 10.

Trinity has three players in the top 10 with Sarah Buss leading the way with an 82 - good for a tie for fifth. Delaney Kelley is tied for eighth after her first-round 84 and Raquel Hill is 10th after posting an 85.

Rounding out the first round team standings, Texas Lutheran University is in fourth place with 363, Centenary is fifth with a 411 and Johnson & Wales University sits in sixth with a 600. 

TLU's Summer Swift, the reigning medalist of the event, is in fourth (81) after the first round. Schreiner's Reygan Rodriguez posted a first-round 82 to sit in a tie for fifth.
