LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - After a week off, four of the league's five women's golf teams were in action this week at the Trinity University Alamo City Classic in San Antonio. The tournament was contested at The Quarry Golf Club.
The host school Trinity took top honors in the seven-team field, firing a two-day total of 635 (+67) to roll to a 19-shot victory over second-place Southwestern University. The Pirates finished with a two-round total of 654 (+86).
Schreiner University (675) and Texas Lutheran (687) finished in fourth and fifth place, respectively.
Trinity was led by senior Taylor Moser, who earned medalist honors with a two-day total of 155. She shot rounds of 79 and 76 to finish the 5,872 yard, par 71 course at +13 and was the only player to shoot rounds in the 70s both days. Teammates Shelby Devore (161), Emily Strausburg (164) and Elizabeth McGillivray (164) all finished in the top 10. Devore finished tied for fifth and Strausburg and McGillivray tied for ninth.
Southwestern had two golfers in the top 10 as Leilani McDaniel took runner-up honors with a two-day total of 157 and Valentina Olivieri finished tied for fifth with a combined score of 161. Both shot final round 74s to move up eight and 11 places, respectively, on Tuesday.
Schreiner received top 10 performances from Marissa Fallis and Alyssa Holbrook, who shot two-round totals of 159 and 161 to finish fourth and tied for fifth, respectively. Kristen Cox led Texas Lutheran with a two-day score of 166 - good for an 11th-place finish.
Playing as an individual, junior Jessica Varner of Centenary College shot a final round 74 (+2), the third-best final round of the tournament, and finished tied for eighth with a three-round total of 231 (+15) in the ULM Fred Marx Invitational, hosted at the par-72, 6,157-yard Bayou Desiard Country Club in Monroe, Louisiana.
The only NCAA Division III athlete in the 12-team field of Division I teams, Varner finished first among the 11 players competing as individuals.
