Texas Lutheran Storms Back to Defeat Austin College and Advance to Title Game

The Bulldogs outscored Austin College, 25-10, in the decisive fourth quarter, hitting 4 of 5 from three-point range, to advance to the championship game for the third time in program history. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Austin College led throughout the game, establishing leads of 20-11, 38-29 and 58-47 after each of the first three periods. The only time Texas Lutheran led in the early going was 2-0 after making the first bucket of the game.
  • With the 'Roos holding a 59-47 with 8:56 remaining, Texas Lutheran went on a 22-9 run over the next 8+ minutes of clock time, culminating with a Dominque Campos scooping layup with 0:51 remaining, to take its first lead (69-68) since the opening minutes of the game.
  • Campos had 11 of her team-high 23 points in the fourth quarter.
  • TLU shot 50.0 percent (6-12), including 80.0 percent (4-5) from three-point range, in the fourth quarter. The Bulldogs held Austin College to 23.1 percent (3-23) for the stanza. For the game, Texas Lutheran shot 41.8 percent (23-55), including a white-hot 50.0 percent (11-22) for the game. Austin College managed just 37.3 percent (22-59) from the floor and 34.5 percent (10-29) from distance.
  • The Bulldogs were able to hold the league's leading scorer, Bryce Frank, to 12 points - her second-lowest output of the season.

NOTABLES
  • Since joining the conference prior to the 2013-14 season Texas Lutheran is making its third trip to the SCAC women's final. Just as they have in their previous two appearances, the Bulldogs will face Trinity in the title game. Sunday's title matchup will be the third between the two in the last six years.
  • The two have split the previous two championship games with TLU winning 54-52 in 2014 and Trinity returning the favor 78-67 in 2017. 
  • Austin College drops to 20-6 with the loss and awaits news of a possible NCAA at-large berth.
