Kayla Oliveira, Texas Lutheran University, Pitcher of the Week (Week 7)

KAYLA OLIVEIRA OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a junior pitcher from San Diego, Texas, has been named the SCAC Softball Pitcher of the Week for games played from Monday, March 11th through Sunday, March 17th.

Oliveira did not allow an earned run in 11 innings of work against two Top 25 teams last week. In a 9-1 win over No. 24 Transylvania, Oliveira went the full five innings and surrendered just three hits in collecting the pitching victory. In a no-decision against No. 6 East Texas Baptist, she tossed six complete innings and scattered five hits. She did not allow a run (earned or unearned) against the Tigers.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior Nicole Aldridge of Centenary dazzled in her lone appearance on the week, pitching a complete-game shutout with eight strikeouts and scattering just five hits to lead the Ladies to their fifth conference shutout in program history. Junior Hannah Ortiz of Schreiner set the tone for the series in the circle against Dallas, spinning a complete game victory in the Mountaineers, 2-1, extra inning win. Ortiz allowed just two hits and didn’t allow an earned run while striking out four in eight innings of work. Junior Lindsey Longuet of Southwestern struck out eight in a loss to No. 24 Transylvania last week. Sophomore Allie Holbrook of Trinity appeared in three of Trinity’s five games last week as the Tigers went 3-2 at the Tucson Invitational Games over Spring Break. Holbrook went 1-1 with an ERA of 1.50 in her three games pitched, allowing three earned runs in 14 innings, and striking out 12 batters against just two walks.
