Katie Bricarell, Southwestern University, Player of the Week (Week 11)

KATIE BRICARELL SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a junior utility player from Cypress, Texas, has been named the SCAC Softball Player of the Week for games played from Monday, April 8th through Sunday, April 14th.

Bricarell continued her torrid month of April, leading the Pirates to a perfect 4-0 record last week, as the team swept Mary Hardin-Baylor in a non-conference doubleheader last Tuesday before picking up a pair of wins over Austin College in a weather shortened conference twin bill last Friday. Bricarell extended her hitting streak to five games, batting .500 from the plate, going 6-for-12. Bricarell also smashed four home runs, including three in the two games against Austin College and now has five home runs in the last five games and six in her last eight games after hitting just four in her previous 25 contests. In the opening game against the Roos’, Bricarell crushed two home runs, the second time in her career she has hit two home runs in a single game. The first time that Bricarell hit two home runs in a single game came back on April 8th of last year when she accomplished the feat against Trinity. The junior also drove in eight runs, accounted for a .600 on base percentage and slugged 1.500 for the week.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior first baseman Wendy Gillet of Centenary help the Ladies earn their second series win over Trinity since joining the SCAC taking three of four contests after dropping the opening game of the weekend. Gillet went 8-for-13 at the plate for a .615 average, with three RBI, two doubles, two runs scored, a .667 on base percentage and a slugging percentage of .769. Sophomore outfielder Kelly Jurden of Texas Lutheran hit .556 and scored seven runs as the Bulldogs swept a four-game set from Schreiner. Jurden had a hit in every game and stole two bases in three of the contests. She stole seven bases in the four games and moved within two steals of tying the TLU single-season record of 43. Sophomore outfielder Emily Vaclavik of Trinity hit .538 (7-for-13) to lead the Tigers’ hitters in last weekend's home series against Centenary.
