IRVING, Texas – Mallarie Munson sent second-seeded University of St. Thomas to within one game of the SCAC Softball Championship game with a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh, to defeat sixth-seeded Centenary College 8-7 in an elimination game on Saturday evening. HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Celts held an early 4-2 lead through three innings on the strength of an RBI groundout, double, error, and single.
- The Ladies tied it at 4-4 with an Erin Lewis two-run double to left field in the top of the fourth. Centenary then retook the lead, at 5-4, with a Lewis RBI single in the top of the sixth.
- St. Thomas responded in the bottom half of the sixth with two runs to go up 6-5 on a fielder’s choice and a single through the left side.
- The top of the seventh saw the Ladies tie things up after Jaymee Wilkinson stole home. One batter later pinch hitter Katelyn Dickey delivered an RBI single to left center to give Centenary the lead at 7-6.
- St. Thomas began the bottom of the seventh with a leadoff double by Sydneye Cromwell. Paige Odenbach then pinch ran for Cromwell. Two batters later Taylor Le reached on a fielder’s choice to put runners on first and second. Munson then stepped to the plate and secured the win with a two-run double down the left field line.
