Eight SCAC Softball Players Named to NFCA All-Region Team

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Eight total players from the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference were named to the 2019 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III All-West Region Team, highlighted by a pair of first-team honorees from Texas Lutheran in sophomore Kelly Jurden and freshman Casey Martin.

Jurden, who was also named the 2019 SCAC Player-of-the-Year, is making her second-straight appearance on the All-Region team after earning a third-team nod last year, while Martin earned the All-Region selection after being named SCAC Newcomer-of-the-Year and first-team selection in her rookie campaign.

In addition to Jurden and Martin, four SCAC players were named to the second team in the West Region, including Texas Lutheran junior pitcher Kayla Oliveira, TLU junior first baseman Madisyn Cates, Southwestern senior designated player Katie Bricarel and Pirates’ junior pitcher Lindsey Longuet. All four were All-SCAC first-team selections this past season.

Two additional SCAC players were tabbed to the third team including Texas Lutheran freshman Chassety Raines and Southwestern senior Celeste Silvas. Raines and Silvas were both first-team all-conference selections in 2019.

All-Region players are nominated and selected by NFCA member coaches in each of the eight Division III regions. First team All-Region choices are eligible for selection to the NFCA All-America team, which will be announced the evening of May 22 online at NFCA.org and in person at the NCAA Division III Championship banquet in Tyler, Texas.
