GEORGETOWN, Texas - The Southwestern University Pirates athletic department has found its next head softball coach, hiring Emerald Doria from the coaching staff of 2019 Conference USA regular season champion Louisiana Tech University.

Doria joins Southwestern University after a six-year stint at Louisiana Tech University, starting as an assistant coach and working her way up to associate head coach for the past two seasons.

"We are excited to have Emerald Doria join us as the next head coach for the Southwestern University softball program," Associate Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics Dr. Glada Munt said. "She helped shape a strong program at Louisiana Tech and we look forward to her bringing that experience to Southwestern."

In her two seasons as the associate head coach at Louisiana Tech, Doria helped guide the softball team to 34 and 45 wins, with the latter the second most in school history. The Lady Techsters have put together a five-year string of achieving at least 30 wins. Over that time, Louisiana Tech has set several school offensive records with Doria working as the primary hitting coach.

A San Antonio, Texas native, Doria graduated from Centenary College in 2010 with a Bachelor of Science, finishing her playing career as the Ladies' all-time leader in runs scored (127) and walks (107), third in hits (165), home runs (22) and slugging percentage (.458), and fifth in at bats (586) and total bases (259).

Doria comes with head coaching experience at C.E. Byrd High School from 2010-2013, leading the team to a pair of district titles and four playoff appearances.

"I am honored to be named the head softball coach of the Southwestern University Pirates," Doria said. "I'd like to thank Dr. Munt for giving me the opportunity to lead such a quality program.

"Being on the staff at Louisiana Tech University for the past six years has been such a blessing. I'm looking forward to carrying what I've learned to Georgetown with me. My family and I are thrilled to be part of such a prestigious university and cannot wait to join in on the competitive, honorable atmosphere that comes with being a Pirate."

The Pirates went 35-6 last season, finishing ranked No. 24 in Division III softball by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association.
