Austin College's Hernandez, Herrera Named SCAC Softball Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Sophomore pitcher/infielder Sophia Hernandez and first-year pitcher Victoria Herrera - both of Austin College - have been named SCAC Softball Players of the Week for their efforts this past weekend.

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  February 10th – February 16th

SOPHIA HERNANDEZ OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a sophomore pitcher/infielder from Irving, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February 10th through Sunday, February 16th.

Hernandez had a huge weekend at the plate, going 6-for-8 with five RBI, five runs scored, a double, and two triples in a pair of games against Huston-Tillotson.

Hernandez came through huge in game two to earn a split. Hernandez went 4-for-5 from the plate with four RBIs and three runs scored including two triples. 

Additionally, she entered in the sixth inning and shut down her opponent, allowing only one hit and striking out one to earn a save.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman outfielder Avery Finch of Dallas went for 2-for-6 with a pair of singles in opening weekend for the Crusaders. Senior shortstop Karen Ramirez of Southwestern hit .462 for the week with six hits in 13 at bats. She had one double with four RBIs and scored three runs. She had a .538 slugging percentage and .588 on base percentage, drawing four walks. Trinity did not nominate anyone. Centenary, Schreiner, and Texas Lutheran were idle.

 

SCAC PITCHER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  February 10th – February 16th

VICTORIA HERRERA OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a freshman right handed pitcher from Houston, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February 10th  through Sunday, February 16th.

Herrera earned her first collegiate victory in a 12-8 win over Huston-Tillotson, striking out four batters while allowing eight runs in 5.0 innings of work.

She also tossed 3.2 innings in the first game, surrendering just one run with two strikeouts. Herrera also went 3-for-5 with an RBI in her game two victory.

Additionally, Herrera was 3-for-4 in the second game with two RBIs to lead the 'Roos to their second win of the season.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman pitcher Katherine Lee of Dallas allowed four earned runs in 8.1 innings pitched despite the Crusaders going 0-2 in their home openers. Freshman pitcher Cozette Palmer of Southwestern allowed seven runs, four earned, on eight hits while walking eight and striking out five in nine innings of work. Trinity did not nominate anyone. Centenary, Schreiner, and Texas Lutheran were idle.
