Dallas' Begle, TLU's Yenne Named SCAC Softball Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Sophomore infielder Erin Begle of the University of Dallas and freshman pitcher Samantha Yenne of Texas Lutheran University have been selected as SCAC Softball Players of the Week for their outstanding performances this past weekend.

 

 




SCAC OFFENSIVE PLAYER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  February 17th – February 23rd

ERIN BEGLE OF UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a sophomore infielder from Houston, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Softball Offensive Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February 17th through Sunday, February 23rd.

Begle had a huge weekend at the plate, going 10-for-15 (.667 average) with five doubles, 10 RBIs, and two runs scored to lead the Crusaders to a 2-2 weekend.

Begle combined for four hits and four RBIs in the two game sweep over Southwestern Assemblies of God including two of her five doubles.

She came back later that week and exploded against Hendrix, hitting 3-for-4 in both games. Begle came through with a double and two RBIs in the first outing and then added two doubles and four RBIs in the finale.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore infielder Mary Whitworth of Austin College had a strong weekend at the plate, batting .714 with two doubles, two RBI, and two runs scored. She delivered a walk-off RBI single in a victory over Hendrix and had a slugging percentage of 1.000 and an on base percentage of .750. Junior utility Ashleigh Scott of Southwestern hit .467 this week. In 15 at bats she posted seven hits, three doubles, while driving in five runs and scoring once. Sophomore infielder Taylor Yancey of Texas Lutheran finished the weekend 3-for-6 with a trio ofsingles in two games against Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday. Centenary and Schreiner did notnominate anyone. Trinity was idle.

 

SCACPITCHER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  February 17th – February 23rd

SAMANTHA YENNEOF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a freshman righthanded pitcher from Lake Jackson, Texas, has been selected the SCACSoftball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February17th  through Sunday, February 23rd.

Yenne earned her first collegiate win last week,getting the start and throwing five innings while allowing just onerun on two hits against Mary Hardin-Baylor to give Texas Lutheran asplit in the two game series. 

Yenne struck out two and walked a pair. Sheallowed a run in the second inning and then proceeded to only allowone hit for the rest of the game.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman pitcher VictoriaHerrera of Austin College had an outstanding performance inher only start of the week, tossing a complete game to earn a winagainst Hendrix. Herrera surrendered four earned runs in the winwhile establishing a career high with eight strikeouts against zerowalks. Freshman pitcherKatherine Lee of Dallas allowed four earned runs in 17.1innings pitched sd the Crusaders going 2-2 this past weekend. Freshman pitcher Nicole Gibbsof Southwestern threw 22.2 innings and posted a 2.78 ERA.She allowed 12 runs, seven earned, on 27 hits with 10 walks andfive strikeouts. Centenary and Schreiner did not nominateanyone. Trinitywas idle.
