LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Sophomore infielder Grace Estes and sophomore pitcher Taylor Grissom of Texas Lutheran University have been named SCAC Softball Players of the Week for their terrific performances this past weekend.

Games of March 10th – March 16th
GRACE ESTES OF
TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore infielder
from Willis, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Softball Offensive
Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, March 10th through
Sunday, March 16th.
Estes enjoyed a productive week in helping the
Bulldogs to six straight wins to start SCAC play.
Estes finished the six games 11-for-17 (.647 BA)
with nine runs scored and six extra-base hits. She drove in seven
RBI on the week while cranking out one home run and five doubles.
She finished with a 1.118 slugging percentage in the six games and
also tallied four walks to finish with a .714 on-base
percentage.
Estes led the Bulldogs to a four-game sweep of
Austin College earlier in the week by going 7-for-10 with four
doubles, six runs scored and four RBI. She ended the week by going
4-for-7 with three runs scored in a doubleheader sweep of
Southwestern. She hit her third homer of the year in the
Bulldogs’ 4-1 come-from-behind win.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior outfielder Lacy
Price of Austin College had an outstanding weekend for
Austin College, batting .333 with two homers and eight runs batted
in. Price boasted a .667 slugging percentage for the week, and was
nearly unstoppable at the plate in a four game series against
Schreiner, hitting .556 with two homers and a 1.222 slugging
percentage. Junior
infielder Ashley Pickert of Dallas hit .357 this week with
five hits including a homerun and three RBIs in their matchup
against Trinity. Junior
outfielder Linsay Biggers of Southwestern hit .500 from the
plate with three runs scored to lead the Pirates. Junior catcher Caitlynn Dykes of
Trinity hit .444 (8-18) for the week, scoring four runs and
driving in 10 more for the Tigers. She posted a slugging
percentage of .722 for the six games, hitting a triple and her 11th
career home run, and also drawing three walks. Centenary and Schreiner did not nominate
anyone.

PITCHER-OF-THE-WEEK

TAYLOR GRISSOM
OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore right
handed pitcher from Spring, Texas, has been selected the SCAC
Softball Pitcher-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, Monday,
March 10th through Sunday, March 16th.
Grissom was the centerpiece of an outstanding
pitching week for the Bulldogs by tossing just the fifth perfect
game in program history in an 8-0 win against Austin College and
striking out a career high seven.
Grissom followed that up with another sterling
performance against Southwestern. After allowing a run early and
four hits in the first two innings, Grissom
settled down and held the Pirates to just one more hit the rest of
the game, striking out seven.
Grissom finished the week with two wins and an
ERA of just 0.58, allowing one earned run in 12 innings pitched.
She tallied two complete games and struck out 14 batters.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore pitcher Sophia
Hernandez of Austin College made Austin College history by
pitching the first perfect game in program history in a 15-0
win over Rust College, she finished the week with a 2.43 ERA in
31.2 innings. Sophomore
pitcher Kaci Wellik of Trinity went 2-1 against Dallas for
the weekend, posting an ERA of 1.98 in three appearances. She
struck out 16 batters in 17.2 innings, allowing five earned runs on
just 12 hits. Centenary, Dallas, Schreiner, and Soutwestern did not nominate
anyone.
