Southwestern's Irvin, Trinity's Castillon Named SCAC Softball Players of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Senior utility player Kayla Irvin of Southwestern University and sophomore pitcher Katie Castillon of Trinity University have been named the inaugural SCAC Softball Players of the Week of the 2014 season.

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC HITTER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  February 3rd – February 9th

KAYLA IRVIN OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a senior utility from Houston, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Softball Hitter-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February 3rd  through Sunday, February 9th.

Irvin was outstanding at the plate for the Pirates as she led Southwetsern to a come from behind over Pacific (Ore.) to earn a split on Opening Day. 

At the plate she posted an unbelievable .800 batting average, going 4-5 with seven RBI's, two homeruns, one double and two runs scored. She put game one to rest with a monsterous three run homerun for the 15-10 victory.

Irwin had a staggering of 2.200 slugging percentage and .857 on base percentage over the weekend. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman infielder Haley Clendennen of Austin College had a huge weekend in her collegiate debut, hitting .545 with two doubles, a home run, and eight RBI in three games. Junior infielder Ashley Jacobson of Texas Lutheran went 2-for-4 in the two games with one home run, five RBI and one run scored. She wrapped up Sunday with a 1.250 slugging percentage and a .500 on-base percentage. Senior infielder Brooke Sanchez of Trinity went 3-5 with two runs scored in the two games, also reaching base two more times via walks for an on-base percentage of .714 for the day. Centenary did not nominate anyone. Schreiner and Dallas were idle.

SCAC PITCHER-OF-THE-WEEK
Games of  February 3rd – February 9th

KATIE CASTILLON OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore guard from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Softball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, February 3rd  through Sunday, February 9th.

Castilllon made her Trinity debut with a complete-game victory in game two of a season-opening doubleheader against NAIA Our Lady of the Lake University.

Castillon allowed just one earned run – two runs total – in seven innings, giving up just five hits, and striking out two batters for the 3-2 victory. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior pitcher Kimberly Leschber of Texas Lutheran allowed three earned runs, struck out two and walked two in five innings pitched to pick up her first win of the season over Division I Abilene Christian. Austin College and Centenary did not nominate anyone. Schreiner and Dallas were idle.
